Great vehicle!
"I love driving my Highlander! It gives a smooth ride; unfortunately, it's super easy to speed also. It doesn't get the greatest gas mileage (17-18 mpg), but for an older midsize SUV, I don't expect great gas mileage. I initially got it so I could transport my grandmother and don't regret buying it. She likes the leather seats and the running boards, both of which help her slide into the passenger seat. I'd give it a 5 star rating, but because of the gas mileage, I give it 4 stars."

My favorite part of the interior is the center console which holds my keys, a small purse, water bottle, tissues, etc. I like the fact that I can close the flaps of the console if I'm going into a store and want to put a small something out of sight.

If maintenance is completed, this vehicle runs without problems. And it gives such a smooth ride...

Lots of space to store a wheelchair, bags of groceries, totes, etc

You pay more for fuel since it doesn't get the greatest gas mileage, but motor repairs are minor, so I'd say it's cost effective in the long run.

Most amazing car ever
"I have owned 10 cars/vans/trucks and a motorcycle and driven countless other vehicles in my 50 years with drivers license. I have never owned a more comfortable, functional, adaptable, and reliable vehicle than my 2002 Highlander. It has lived in a garage every night for almost 18 years now of daily driving, and it now has 245,000 miles. It still looks almost new including most of the interior, although the original vinyl drivers seat is starting to show wear. It is a constant source of amazement that it has had almost nothing go wrong with it over 18 years, other than standard wear and tear items. Every time I buy a new set of brakes and tires I believe that is the last set I will need for the car before its demise, but it keeps purring and never produces a significant repair issue. I replaced the timing belt prophylactically at the suggested time (125k miles?) and now at 245k I am thinking I should replace it again, though the car is running perfectly. I can not bring myself to purchase a new vehicle when this one keeps running so smoothly, still looks contemporary and even new-ish, and is so minimal cost to maintain. Overall - This Toyota Highlander is an amazing vehicle. I will be very hard pressed not to purchase another Highlander whenever this one does give out. For now, it keeps running perfectly."

Seat material is excellent and holds up very well over the decades. Functionality of rear seat folding and storage area great and never needs repair or attention.
Exterior

5.0

Looks like new after 18 years. Just give it a wash and wax several times a year and after limited number of salt exposures.
Performance

5.0

Very comfortable and reliable for city driving or for me relatively frequent 400 mile highway runs going 75-90 mph

Carried my family of 5 frequently around the city and on multistate vacation travel.

Cant imagine any vehicle costing less to maintain over 245K than this vehicle. It has had almost nothing go wrong in 18 years. Just keep up with oil changes, tires, and brakes.
