SL500 Dream Car; Reliable Daily Driver
"This car is amazing. Mine is just a bone-stock, factory-made SL500, but it feels and looks like a million bucks. I have been daily driving mine since I bought it, and though it costs more to maintain, it's totally worth it. This is a $100,000 car, and the build quality and performance reflects the original MSRP. Yes, the hydraulic suspension system has some parts that wear out, but once you get them fixed, the system works way better than any standard coil-over suspension. If your'e having issues, get the accumulators replaced, get the engine mounts replaced, get the valve blocks rebuilt, and sort out any other suspension component issues (control arm bushings, etc...), and it will drive like new for years. I love the way the hard-top convertible roof folds into the trunk. I love the way the trunk is still useable even with the top down. I love the rumble of the V8 engine. I love that the gas mileage is still pretty good, even though the car has a ton of power. I love the way the interior feels. I love the sound system. I love the seat heaters. I love the way the car handles. I literally love everything about this car, and the somewhat higher maintenance costs are 100% absolutely worth it. Be careful with it during your daily driving, and it will be ready to perform when you really need to push it. I am pretty careful with mine during normal use, and have not had any issues since I bought it and remedied the deferred maintenance from the previous owner. I even drove mine from Southern California to Northern California when I moved, and was a little worried - no need though, the car made it there without a single hiccup, and has been performing flawlessly ever since. It really got hammered by some of those potholes too."

The interior is extremely comfortable and the cockpit feels solidly built. The wood trim feels executive. The seat heaters work great. The back support comes in really handy on longer drives when your back starts to ache. In comfort mode, the suspension rides like a Cadillac. My wife loves being inside this car; it makes her feel posh.
Exterior

There is no better looking convertible roadster than this car. It looks like a rad coupe with the top up, and looks like a sweet luxury cruiser with the top down.
Performance

5.0

Mine is the stock V8, without the AMG superchargers, and it still RIPS. The tiptronic shifter is very fun to use, and once you get used to the delay in the shift, you can really use it to push the car to it's limits. The traction control comes in really handy, because sometimes, you just want to floor it going around a corner. The car handles like a supercar.

Great for Mom & Dad... Keep the kids and dogs out of this one...

For 10% the cost, you are still getting almost 100% the value (I say almost because you might have to deal with some deferred maintenance when you get it...). For just the cost of the buy-in and maintenance, you can't get a better luxury sports convertible.

Great car
"We purchased our 2004 SL500 about 10 years ago. We don't drive it as our regular mode of transportation. It's a fun car to drive, especially with the top down. It can be expensive to repair. We have kept the service up to date, which has minimized repairs. Happy we decided to get it when we did."
Interior

Clean and in great shape.
Exterior

Great condition. Paint has held up because we take care of the car with wash and wax regularly
Performance

Very good. Always reliable.

It's a two seater, so it is not a family vehicle in the normal use of the word.
Cost

As I have stated, good maintenance and common sense helps to minimize the costs

2004 SL55 AMG Super Car
"Make sure suspension is working properly as well as convertible top mechanism as they are Very expensive to repair or replace. Other then these two issues I love this super car. Way ahead of it’s time when built. "
