"We have a very steep, non-paved driveway on the ocean with severe winter weather. 4 wheel drive is a must. Our 1996 Land Cruiser was our only way in or out of our house in the winter so we needed a second one. After driving a Land Cruiser, we didn't want to go "down" to other cars. We don't like the more "car" feel of the 2007 and prefer the feel of the 1996, but sure do like the heated seats, cup holders, navigation system and other more "modern" (to us) features. Certainly no need to buy a brand new one - 9 years old is fine. Our other one is fine and is 20 years old and we've done almost nothing to it. If buying a 2007 Land Cruiser, be sure that the timing belt (yes, it has a belt) has been replaced. We bargained for that in our pricing since it hadn't been done. Also be sure to get 2 master keys, and check to be sure DVD players have the remotes as they won't work without the original. Also check the spare tire to be sure the release works, as well as the parking brake, which apparently a lot of people don't use and let rust. "

Land Cruisers hold up very well. No rust and this car was and is in Canada.

It is normal for heated seats cycle off at 95 degrees. Seating very comfortable - all seats recline and are quite cushy. Carpeting and leather stays nice for many years.
Family Friendliness

5.0

Great family car with 8 seats. Only thing better for kids would be big 8 passenger van where you can move around inside instead of reaching over seats. Reasonable amount room in way back even with third row seats down. Roof rack for further gear. The air bags and side air curtains, plus the extremely sturdy construction and chassis make it ideal for family safety.
Cost Effectiveness

5.0

Considering how long Land Cruisers last, and the excellent construction, even the lower gas mileage and high original cost leaves it worth the price. That being said, it is a luxury vehicle, not a compact, money saving car. But for the peace of mind, knowing your family is as safe as it can be on the highway, it is well worth the cost. And also considering that there is no need to buy a brand new one since the quality is so high, purchasing a 9 year old Land Cruiser is actually fairly cost effective.

Great performance from V8. 4 WD really good.
