Looking to shake up the midsize sedan segment, the 2008 Chrysler Sebring offers American styling and a lengthy list of standard features. If you’re looking for a midsize sedan, but want something with a lot of style and interior space, the Sebring is a good choice. That said, some competitors deliver better interior quality and a more refined driving experience.
The 2008 Chrysler Sebring is available as a sedan or a convertible. The sedan seats five and the convertible accommodates four. The Sebring sedan is available in LX, Touring and Limited trims. There are two four-cylinder engine choices, as well as a V6. Two automatic transmissions are offered. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available.
The Limited trim gains an all-wheel-drive option for 2008. Additionally, an updated audio system with a six-disc CD player and satellite radio become standard.
The 2008 Chrysler Sebring has a distinct look that features blocky lines and sleek touches. Up front, the Sebring features a ribbed hood, a large trapezoidal grille and unique headlights. The roofline widens as it reaches the back of the sedan, providing a broad stance. A squared-off trunk, oval taillights and a tidy rear bumper can be seen at the rear.
Standard features include 16-inch wheels, body-colored door handles, heated side-view mirrors, a “bright” grille and quad headlights. Available equipment includes daytime running lights, dual exhaust tips, fog lights, automatic headlights and 17-inch wheels.
The Chrysler Sebring impresses with its roomy accommodations, though some competitors feature better interior build quality. The cabin features clean and contemporary lines. A sweeping dashboard leads into a V-shaped center console. Three large gauges make up the instrument cluster and sit behind a four-spoke steering wheel. The front seats are comfortable but lack lumbar support. The rear seats are spacious in the sedan. The sedan offers 13.6 cubic feet of cargo space, while the convertible has 13.1 cubic feet.
The Sebring comes with cloth upholstery, six-way power-adjustable front seats, power windows, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and air conditioning. Optional features include automatic temperature control, heated and cooled cup holders, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather-trimmed seats and heated front seats.
There are three engines to choose from with the 2008 Chrysler Sebring. The base engine is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. The next step up is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that’s rated to make 186 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. Both four-cylinder engines are paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.
There’s also a 3.5-liter V6 engine that generates 235 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. It comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is an option.
Fuel economy for the Sebring is up to 21/30 mpg city/highway.
The Sebring lags behind the competition when it comes to road manners. The V6 engine is the best motor of the trio, as it brings in a modern automatic transmission that provides better performance. The Sebring’s ride quality also lags behind its rivals, and its cabin can be noisy at higher speeds.
The 2008 Sebring comes standard with two 12-volt power outlets, an AM/FM audio system, a six-disc CD changer, a six-speaker sound system, satellite radio and keyless entry. Optional features include a Boston Acoustics sound system, Bluetooth, MP3 compatibility, navigation, a HomeLink garage door opener and a remote start system.
