"Get the one you want. Lots of Vipers out there so go drive them. When you decide on the year you want, test drive them so you know what they should handle, drive, and sound like. Also call the local Dodge dealer for a Certified Viper tech to check the car when you go see it because things that need attention can add up with these cars. They can be very expensive to have repaired and also expensive just to buy parts for you to repair or maintain it. From the time I was ready to buy, to when I found the right one for me, was 3 years. Vipers are NOT rare, however, any specific generation, regarding color, rims, interior colors, etc., are rare. If you want a stripe delete Viper Blue 08-10 roadster model, there were only 30 of them made, so it will take a while for one to come up for sale, but it won't be the only one. If you want a purple 08 model, you might be buying the first one that comes up unless you are ok with waiting 2 or 3 years to get it. Some color combos are limited to one or just a few. A decent number of Viper owners can own half a dozen exotics. They do not need the money any more than they need to drive the Viper over the Lambo that week. Remember, go drive every one of them you are interested in, even if you have to catch a flight or drive 10 hours, so you know what to expect when they are working correctly. Any day of the week that you want to buy a black Vette you will have your choice of dozens of the generation you would like if not hundreds. The same Viper of that generation may come up 7 times in 2 years. Some will have accident history. That leaves 4 of them. Google the production numbers. Also, it's not your "baby". It's mean, nasty, and dangerous. Man up. Good luck. "
