"I have a 2008 Ford Edge Limited w/ AWD. When shopping for this vehile, I knew I wanted AWD/4WD and reasonable space for our small family. My top contenders were the Fusion, Escape and Edge. We already owned a Explorer (not the vehicle being replaced) so another didn't make sense. I wanted reasonable gas mileage (certainly better than the Explorer). I liked the ride height of the SUVs. The Escape and Edge were comparable in price for the year I was looking (2008-2010 and it was around 2015 at the time).
The Edge has been a solid vehicle for us. We love the vista roof! It's a very comfortable vehicle. It's spacious enough for 4. We have 2 car seats in the 2nd row and they fit nicely. If we didn't have an Explorer already, that would probably be the smarter option. You sacrifice MPG, but gain a lot more seating and space. But commute about 2 hrs. a day so the Edge might win either way. The AWD makes it great in the snow (prefer the Explorer here, but where we live we only get a handful of large storms a year). The default FWD is very good too. In the rain, this slips much less (rarely) than the Explorer and it's RWD does. The handling is also much better than the Explorer, but not quite as nice as a mid-size car. <div>
</div><div>When shopping, I saw several complains about the A/C direction (something about the vent locations). This has never been an issue for us. They work just fine and we can direct them well enough.
My biggest complaint is that I wish the gas mileage were a bit better. We get about 17 MPG on long back roads (not quite highway, but better than city driving). Wish it had a little better power for the MPGs.
Overall, we're very happy with the Edge. We bought it with ~113k miles and it's currently at ~142k. I hope to get at least 250k before it starts needing more repairs each year than it's worth. </div>"
