The Jeep mystique is all about off-road capabilities, and in this department, the 2008 Jeep Liberty does not disappoint. It comes with replaceable fender flares and has a roomy interior. On the flip side, the engine plods along and consumes more fuel than what we’d like.
The 2008 Jeep Liberty comes in two trims: Sport and Limited. All models have a V6 engine paired with either a manual or an automatic transmission. This five-passenger compact SUV comes with standard two-wheel drive and available four-wheel drive.
The second-generation Jeep Liberty debuts in 2008. Key changes include a fresh exterior, improved handling and a better ride. A canvas roof is offered for the first time.
The 2008 Jeep Liberty has a rectangular shape with sharp edges and upright roof pillars. Pronounced fender flares, the brand’s trademark seven-slat vertical grille and available underbody cladding demonstrate that this is no ordinary SUV. From the rear is a pair of sentry-like tail lamps.
Standard equipment includes halogen headlamps, 16-inch aluminum wheels and power side mirrors. Available features include fog lamps, heated side mirrors and 17- or 18-inch aluminum wheels. Jeep also makes available a power sunroof, a canvas roof, tow hooks and skid plates.
The 2008 Liberty offers a utilitarian look marked by even lines and flat surfaces. The front low-back reclining bucket seats are firm, yet supportive. The rear 60/40 bench seat is ideal for two passengers. Standard cargo space measures 31.5 cubic feet. Fold down the rear seat, and that space expands to 64.2 cubic feet. Jeep also offers a fold-down front passenger seat, ideal for accommodating long items, such as skis.
Standard features include power windows, cloth seats and air conditioning. Among the options are a power driver’s seat, heated front seats and leather seats.
We like the 2008 Jeep Liberty more for what it does off-road than for its on-road capabilities. While the V6 engine is a workhorse, it is not as fast as competing engines. It rides and handles like a truck, but the four-wheel drive models tackle mud with authority.
The Liberty comes with a 3.7-liter V6 engine, generating 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard. A four-speed automatic transmission is available. Jeep offers both part- and full-time four-wheel-drive systems. This model makes an EPA-estimated 16/22 mpg city/highway.
The Jeep Liberty can tow up to 3,500 pounds when equipped with the manual transmission. Models with the automatic transmission can pull up to 5,000 pounds.
The 2008 Jeep Liberty has a four-speaker audio system with a CD player and an audio jack. Upgrades include six- and nine-speaker audio systems, a multimedia infotainment system with a hard drive, a USB port, a 6.5-inch color display and a 115-volt power outlet.
Jeep equips the 2008 Liberty with anti-lock brakes, electronic roll mitigation, brake assist and traction control. Available equipment includes trailer sway control, hill descent control and rear parking assist.
"needed a good used car, the seats are very comfortable, nice looking and fair mileage. problems, 6 speed manual trans jumps out of 1st gear. they can fix the problem, but parts are another story, parts on back order, don't know when they will be shipped. not good news for parts replacement." "I purchased this car for my wifes daily driver and because the 4 wheel drive is easy to rig to tow behind an rv. It is a very reliable car and we have not had any problems in 55 thousand miles.
Fuel mileage is not bad for a 4x4 (about 19 average). It is equipped with a sky slider roof which is great but it is noisy like a convertible and it does not like hi pressure car washes.
All in all I give it 5 stars" Read Less
