The 2009 Audi A4 offers many of the same benefits as its German rivals. It’s fun to drive, thanks to two powerful engine choices and proven suspension technologies. It also features modern-day safety features such as adaptive cruise control. Luxury highlights include heated leather seats and real-wood cabin trim.
Available in 2.0T and 3.2 trims, the 2009 Audi A4 seats five. A station-wagon body style, the 2009 Audi A4 Avant, is available if you need more cargo space. The standard powertrain combines a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available. When equipped with AWD, Audi provides six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions.
The Audi A4 sedan and A4 Avant are all-new for this model year.
Sculpted sheet metal and thin roof pillars give the A4 a sporty look. Aggressive details include Audi’s distinctive grille design. That’s set off by long fog-light pockets and a slim lower intake with flared edges.
The fog lights are standard for the A4 and matched with standard halogen headlamps. The A4 also has upscale standard equipment such as a power sunroof and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Available content extends to bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and 17- through 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
The 2009 Audi A4 has a driver-focused cabin with the instrument panel, infotainment display and center-stack controls sharing the same border. The gauges and infotainment screen are set back from the angled surface of the dashboard trim. It’s a dramatic effect. Standard aluminum inlays and door-sill inserts add a sophisticated touch. A 60/40-split folding rear seat is standard and complements a trunk capacity of 16.9 cubic feet. That leads most rivals. The A4 station wagon has a maximum cargo capacity of 50.1 cubic feet.
Many premium features are standard with the A4, including leather seating surfaces, power-adjustable front seats, a driver’s seat with four-way power lumbar adjustment, automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. In the A4’s higher equipment packages, the seats are heated, and tri-zone automatic climate control is standard. The Sport and S line packages supply exclusive seat and steering-wheel upgrades. Power sunshades, along with walnut and ash inlays, are optional for all trims.
The 2009 Audi A4 delivers brisk performance with two engines. The 2.0T models have a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. It produces 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. In the 3.2 trim level, a naturally aspirated 3.2-liter V6 is standard. This engine makes 265 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. A CVT and front-wheel drive are standard in the turbocharged A4. All-wheel drive is optional for the turbo engine. With that combination, a six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a six-speed automatic is available. The V6 trims have standard all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic gearbox.
EPA ratings for the entry-level A4 sedan are the highest in the lineup, at 23/30 mpg city/highway.
A 10-speaker audio system is standard in the 2009 Audi A4. It bundles a 6.5-inch display, a CD player, an auxiliary input jack, an SD card reader and satellite radio.
The A4 offers safety technology such as a backup camera, adaptive cruise control and a blind-spot system. Available infotainment features include a navigation system, voice recognition, Bluetooth, iPod connectivity and 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with 505 watts of power. A mid-range sound system has a six-disc CD player.
