The Toyota Prius outsells all competing hybrid models combined. And that’s no surprise: It delivers an efficient and roomy package, along with an affordable price. On the other hand, the quality of cabin materials is not what we’d expect from Toyota.
The 2010 Toyota Prius is a front-wheel-drive, gas-electric hatchback that seats five. Toyota offers the Prius in four trims: II, III, IV and V. A four-cylinder gas engine works with an electric motor to move the Prius.
For 2010, the Toyota Prius is completely new. Key changes include fresh styling, improved fuel economy and better steering.
The 2010 Toyota Prius launches this model’s third generation. The model’s familiar jellybean shape continues, and it delivers an exceptionally aerodynamic exterior. The new model offers sharper edges and pronounced character lines, along with a raised and more substantial rear.
Most models have halogen headlights with an automatic on-and-off feature. Power-controlled and heated side mirrors, 15-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights and a rear deck spoiler also are included. Options include LED headlamps, fog lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels and a power tilt-and-slide moonroof.
Though compact on the outside, the 2010 Prius offers ample space on the inside. Cabin ergonomics and displays are among the best you’ll find in the industry, although the digital gauge setup remains off center as before. The quality of materials contains more plastics than we’d like, but the fit and finish are excellent.
In addition to offering sufficient space for five passengers, the Prius is big on utility. This model has 21.6 cubic feet of standard cargo space. That’s at the top among sedans. The rear seat folds for added versatility, but Toyota doesn’t publish that number.
The 2010 Toyota Prius has power windows, power door locks, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, air conditioning, fabric-trimmed seats and a cargo compartment cover. Upgrades include leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats and steering wheel-mounted controls.
Toyota has refined its hybrid powertrain to deliver improved power and efficiency. The new model still behaves like a hybrid with its squishy brake feel, but the new drive mode selector allows for controlling engine performance, enabling a more spirited drive as desired. The Prius can also run on electric-only power at speeds up to 25 mph, as long as the battery system is at least half-charged.
A 1.8-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an electric motor power the 2010 Toyota Prius. Power is sent to the front wheels by means of a continuously variable transmission. By itself, the engine delivers 98 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque. Under full power, the engine and motor combine to deliver 134 system horsepower.
The 2010 Toyota Prius makes an EPA-estimated 51/48 mpg city/highway.
The standard audio package consists of six speakers, a CD player and satellite radio capability. Toyota also includes an auxiliary audio jack. Most models come with an eight-speaker JBL audio system, which adds Bluetooth wireless technology. Also available is a touch-screen display with navigation and a rearview camera. All models have keyless entry and push-button start.
Toyota also makes available a pair of driver-assist features with the 2010 Prius. A package upgrade, available across all trims except for the base model, brings in dynamic radar cruise control and lane keep assist.
"2010 Prius bought used in 2014. Only normal maintenance except the 12 volt aux battery was replaced last year. Still getting close to 50 mpg Main battery still in excellent condition. " Read Less
