You can find just about all of the compact SUV segment’s top content in the 2010 Toyota RAV4. It offers contemporary safety technologies and luxury features, along with a versatile cabin. A capable V6 engine is also available. The RAV4 then has an unexpected advantage: to handle more passengers than most rivals, Toyota provides an optional third row of seating.
This popular compact SUV comes standard with room for five people. The RAV4 trim levels for 2010 are base, Sport and Limited. The standard powertrain relies on a four-cylinder engine, front-wheel drive and four-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, you can get each trim with all-wheel drive and a five-speed automatic.
The RAV4’s 2010 updates are focused on bringing more of last year’s equipment to more of this year’s trim levels. For example, you can now get a rearview camera for the base model.
The 2010 Toyota RAV4 provides a sporty look up front with a strongly sculpted hood, stylish fog-light pockets and sweptback headlights. However, for the RAV4, the most notable details may be at the back. That’s where you’ll see distinctive rear roof pillars and a covered, tailgate-mounted spare. As for the RAV4’s actual tailgate, that swings out horizontally.
The base model carries a competitive, if basic, level of standard content. This includes reflector-style halogen headlights, LED taillamps, LED stop lamps, power-adjustable mirrors and 16-inch covered steel wheels. Many mainstream options are in play as well. Among the highlights are a power moonroof, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, roof rails with crossbars and 17- and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
The cabin of the Toyota RAV4 has a modern look and is also impressively functional. That approach is reflected in the design of the dashboard. The dash offers a distinctive split-level appearance and a handy dual glovebox. In the second row, a 60/40-split folding bench is standard. The available third row is a 50/50-split folding bench for two passengers. The cargo capacity for the 2010 RAV4 ranges from 12.3 cubic feet behind the third row to 73 cubic feet.
Standard content for the RAV4 includes fabric-trimmed seating, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, power accessories, cruise control and a tilt-and-telescoping steering column. You can enjoy higher levels of comfort in the upper trims. They can supply leather seats, heated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel.
The 2010 RAV4 is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Introduced the previous year, this unit produces 179 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. A 3.5-liter V6 is also available and makes 269 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque. When that engine is beneath its hood, the RAV4 can tow up to 3,500 pounds. This is a full ton more than in the 2010 Honda CR-V, which doesn’t come with a V6. All trim levels offer both engines with front- or all-wheel drive. The four-cylinder engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, while a five-speed automatic is standard with the V6.
Anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, stability control and traction control are standard across the roster.
RAV4 models with the entry-level powertrain earn EPA ratings of 22/28 mpg city/highway.
In terms of tech content, the RAV4 opens with a standard six-speaker audio system. It includes an AM/FM stereo, satellite radio, a CD player and an auxiliary input jack.
A backup camera is optional for all models and uses a display built into the rearview mirror. You can also choose from a number of infotainment upgrades for the RAV4. Leading the way is a touch screen navigation system. A JBL audio system is available separately with Bluetooth, a six-disc CD player and nine speakers.

"The Toyota RAV4 is a wonderful car. Reliable and practically maintenance free, except for oil changes and tire rotations. Handles well and has plenty of power. Also does really well on snowy, slick roads. I have owned two Rav 4’s, and have been very happy with both."
Comfortable and roomy. Very easy to clean. Looks very sporty.
Beautiful paint and very sturdy. Easy to maintain.
Love the performance of this car. Powerful and handles well. Performs well on slick roads.
Very roomy and has many safety features.
Very cost effective. Owned mine for 10 years and no major issues. Just routine oil changes and tire rotations.
Base model, very plain and functional interior no high tech features just good quality fabrics and everything works perfectly.
Very clean with great paint finish no chipping on the lower portion of panels. With the roof rack and cross bars coupled with the fold down seats and under floor storage there is plenty of room to take along lots of items whether traveling or doing work at home.
Good for a 4 cylinder with consistent mileage overall of 23 mpg. Lots of passing power and very smooth transmission.
Room for 5 with the middle rear a little tight. Rear seats adjust forward and back to provide plenty of access and leg room.
At 107000 miles my costs of ownership has been fuel, oil changes, tires and a battery. Great car.
