The 2011 Infiniti G37 is the kind of fun-to-drive car that often flies beneath the metaphorical radar. Just keep in mind that the G37 is so powerful it almost literally flies, so caution is needed when pushing it in speed zones. No matter your driving style, you’ll be comfortable in Infiniti’s upscale cabin as you enjoy its tech features including a powerful sound system.
The midsize G37 comes in luxury sedan, coupe and convertible body styles. The sedan and coupe are available in G37 Journey, G37x AWD and G37 Sport 6MT trim levels. The coupe adds a G37 base model. The convertible is only offered in base and G37 6MT trims. Seating for five people is standard in the sedan. The other two body styles have four-passenger cabins.
The standard powertrain for the G37 combines a V6 engine, seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. A six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive are optional, but not together.
A 2011 Infiniti G25 sedan and a 2011 Infiniti Performance Line G coupe were new for 2011 and reviewed separately. Also joining the lineup this model year are sedan-only Sport Appearance and Limited Editions. Both bundle upscale equipment and unique style details.
Cars such as the Acura TSX and Lexus GS are among the closest competitors for the 2011 Infiniti G37. However, neither rival features a two-door body style.
The unassuming design of the G37 is strong yet fluid. That’s especially the case in the front, where the curving hood and bumpers swell forward like the surface of the ocean. With the coupe, a more dramatic roofline transforms the G37 into a sophisticated sports car. The convertible wears a power-retractable soft top that can be opened or closed in about 30 seconds.
Standard equipment includes high-intensity discharge headlamps, LED taillights, foglights, power-adjustable mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, a rear spoiler and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Aggressive front fascias, headlights and side skirts are bundled into the optional Sport package. Options for the sedan and coupe include heated exterior mirrors, 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a power sunroof.
The G37 has the smooth and sophisticated dashboard of a modern sports sedan, complete with a standard aluminum-trimmed center stack. Infiniti updated that design with separate housing for the instrument panel and steering wheel. It looks a bit like an arcade setup for a classic driving game.
The Infiniti G37 sedan has a standard rear-seat pass-through that boosts trunk capacity from 7.4 cubic feet to 13.5 cubic feet. The convertible has 10.3 cubic feet of trunk space.
Infiniti provides standard leather-appointed seating, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, automatic temperature control, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. The G37 is also available with heated front seats, a driver’s 12-way power-adjustable sport seat, an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger sport seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, maple wood cabin accents and a sport steering wheel.
The G37 takes its name from its standard 3.7-liter V6. That engine makes 328 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque in the sedan, with very minor variations in the coupe and convertible. A seven-speed automatic transmission is also standard.
For a more traditional high-performance driving experience, the 6MT trims have six-speed manual transmissions. Rear-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is available with the automatic transmission.
Infiniti estimates the G37 sedan’s fuel economy ratings are EPA-rated at 19/27 mpg city//highway with the standard powertrain.
Engineered as a driver’s car, the G37 is an eager performer in any configuration. The serious thrills, however, are found with options like a limited-slip differential and sport-tuned suspension, braking and steering systems.
The G37 has a standard infotainment system with a 7-inch display, a dash-mounted controller, an AM/FM stereo, a CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack and a six-speaker audio system. You can also choose options including a navigation system, a touchscreen, Bluetooth, a USB port, and 2.0- or 9.3-GB “Music Box” hard drives. The Premium Package includes a Bose audio, moonroof, driver memory, power tilt/telescope and rear park sensors.
