Though best known for its affordable pricing, the 2012 Nissan Versa has other benefits, too. These include more passenger and trunk space than many rivals, air conditioning and available navigation. With its optional continuously variable transmission (CVT), the car is among the segment’s fuel-economy leaders.
The 2012 Nissan Versa is a subcompact sedan, which is a bit of an advantage in itself. Popular brands such as Honda and Toyota do not have sedans in this class. The 2012 Versa seats five and is available in S, SV and SL trims. A five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive are standard. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard for the SV and SL, and it’s offered for the S. The 2012 Nissan Versa Hatchback is available separately if you prefer a five-door body style.
The Versa is all-new for 2012.
The 2012 Nissan Versa features a distinctive silhouette with a high, rounded roofline. The roof gradually slopes downward at the rear for a dynamic, fastback appearance. The body of the car is set off by swept-back headlights, large wraparound taillights and gentle sculpting that flows into both.
The standard content for the Versa reflects its high-value pricing. That means you can expect reflector-style halogen headlights, manually adjustable exterior mirrors and 15-inch covered steel wheels. Upgrades are limited as well. The top Versa options include fog lights, power-adjustable mirrors and 15-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin design for the 2012 Versa is highlighted by a sculpted multi-piece dashboard. The stylish look is emphasized by a center stack that projects slightly from the dash and a circle-shaped theme for the climate controls and prominent outboard climate vents. The Versa has a notable advantage in space versus key rivals. For example, the Versa’s 37 inches of rear legroom and trunk capacity of 14.7 cubic feet compare to measures of 32.1 inches and 12.8 cubic feet in the 2012 Ford Fiesta sedan. For the Versa, 60/40-split folding seats are optional.
Air conditioning is standard for the Versa, as are a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and manual windows and door locks. The standard steering wheel has a tilt-adjustable column. In the higher trims, Nissan brings the Versa up to a basic level of standard content. Those models provide power doors and windows, upgraded cloth seats, cruise control and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls.
Putting its focus on fuel economy, the 2012 Nissan Versa relies on a standard 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. It makes 109 horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque, which is on the low end for the segment. All Versa models are configured with front-wheel drive. The Versa S pairs that with a standard five-speed manual transmission. A CVT is optional for the S and standard for the SV and SL. The Versa Hatchback has a larger four-cylinder engine that makes 122 horsepower. It pairs with either a standard six-speed manual, a four-speed automatic or a CVT.
The Versa earns fuel-economy grades of 30/37 mpg city/highway.
Another way the 2012 Nissan Versa maintains a low price is by providing a standard two-speaker audio system with a CD player and auxiliary input jack.
Nissan also offers a four-speaker setup for the S trim and more tech content in higher trims. They feature Bluetooth for hands-free calling, navigation, a 5-inch touch screen, an iPod-compatible USB port and satellite radio and traffic services.

"This car has been a great, practical car. It has great mileage in the city and can fit all my camping gear for the weekend trips and when I go biking, can fit 2 bikes for fun in the back or on a removable rack. It has been what I wanted." Read Less

Economy plus reliable
"I love it. I'd give it a 5 star but the driver seat with no arm rest makes it a uncomfortable ride until you get a comfortable spot. I had to change my driving posture . Overall dependable and cheap maintenance for 140,000 miles and going strong. "
"This is a great car for a kid going to college. It’s light on gas and needs very little maintenance. It’s very light which has its ups and downs. The one positive of that is less fuel. The negative is when it rains you slide easier so drive more careful. "
It is very comfortable for the space that it is. It sits and feels amazing.
Not the most outstanding looking car but hold out great to all sorts of weather.
Great car for fuel saving. Drives really smooth and turns very easily.
Not a speed demon kind of car. This car is perfect for family and safety.
Very low maintenance needed. It does not use a lot of fuel either.
