My second C-Max!
"I liked the 2013 C-Max so much that I bought one for my son and kept his when he went back east to school and am selling mine. I love this car for city (Seattle) driving. Maneuverable, easy to get in and out of. Zippier than a Prius, but still gets 40+ mpg in stop and go city driving. "

C-Max energi Plug in Hybrid.
"The car has 18-26 mile electric only range depending on how driven, speed, & accessory use (Heater, AC.) During this time Engine remains off, unless very heavy throttle. The extra large battery does take up about a third of the cargo space, leaving 19 cu. ft. Does not have a spare or place to carry one. Has air pump with tire sealant container. Not good if you have a blowout. Is quieter on the highway than other hybrids I have driven. "

Compared to other hybrids, the c-max puts more emphasis on comfort than just light weight material for max mpg. The extra weight of the better quality material does have a little mpg penalty, but the comfort is worth it. Also the headroom is way above average making entry & exit much easier than most cars. The interior is roomy for a small car.
Exterior

I think it is one of the nicer looking hybrids out there. I find this vehicle kind of in a class by itself that is a cross between a hatchback, & a wagon in the compact size.
Performance

5.0

One of few hybrids that can cruise at freeway speeds in electric mode only. Has very good performance for a hybrid.
Family

It can seat five passengers. The back seat sits low & the three seats are more suited for short leg people & children. Adults can seat fairly comfortably in the back seat, but knees are above the seat a little. Leg room is good for a compact car.

Being I bought this used I find it very cost effective. Your operating costs will by low if most of your driving is within its 25 mile electric range. The car can go way past that, but will be in regular hybrid mode. Electric cost is about 2 - 3 cents per mile. In hybrid mode that increases to about 10 - 12 cents a mile.

Small package...lots of options
"High roofline makes it easier for my 275 pound frame to get in and out. Ride is smooth and power is surprisingly peppy. Brakes take some getting used to."

The Ideal Car?
"If you're into technology at all, appreciate efficient use of space, enjoy driving a well-designed car, and like the idea of fuel efficiency, the C-Max Hybrid is probably a great choice for you."
Interior

5.0

The layout is practical, comfortable, spacious, and attractive.
Exterior

5.0

It's not exactly racy looking but the more I realize how practical and fun to drive the C-Max is, the more it's unusual profile grows on me.
Performance

5.0

It really is a technological wonder that it all works so amazingly well with strong acceleration when needed plus fantastic fuel economy.
Family

4.0

4 stars here only because I can see where 3 large children might be more comfortable in a somewhat larger car. However, the C-Max makes terrific use of the space that's there.
Cost

5.0

Used hybrid prices are fairly low right now because gas prices are low. This makes the car cost effective now, and possibly a very prudent choice for the future if/when had prices rise.

"18,000 miles so far with 44 mpg! An gremlin seems to live within the electrical system however. Radio has never functioned properly (8 repair attempts), dead car 4 times (some mumbo-jumbo about the car's computer going into "sleep mode"), Lifetime Data display resets randomly, etc. Very poor Ford support to diagnose and repair."

"Great looking car. Nice tech package. Great gas mileage. We average 40 mpg. Central Florida to Key West on less than one tank!"

by GABE on September 23, 2014

"The SEL feels like a more expensive car with fun but not necessary features like rear camera, ambient lighting, moonroof, voice control for many systems. All work fine. I have read other reviews in which people complain about glitches in software and there have been recalls for very minor things on this car. That doesn't inspire confidence, but they fix them for free and the car is fun. We compared it with the Volkswagen Jetti TDI and the Toyota Prius. The C Max was the winner for comfort on the road (higher seating than the VW, less whiney noise than the Prius) and overall driving experience (better acceleration and road feel than the Prius, better mileage than the VW). The mileage we have gotten is around 37.5 overall which is significantly less than advertised and thus the missing star. We are previous Civic hybrid owners and experienced in the ways of maximizing mileage. I am frequently 'that guy' holding up traffice so as to keep the car in EV mode. "
