Midsize crossovers have to shine in a variety of areas if they’re to rise to the top of the pack. The 2013 Ford Edge is one of the leading picks in the segment, and it excels because of its well-rounded nature. The Edge provides pleasant ride quality, good fuel economy, an accommodating cabin and a rich assortment of features.
The 2013 Ford Edge is a midsize crossover with seating for five, and it’s offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The Edge is sold in SE, SEL, Limited and Sport trims. All models utilize a six-speed automatic transmission.
For 2013, base SE models become available with all-wheel drive.
Large and blocky, the Edge cuts a powerful and commanding figure on the road. In front, a smooth, sculpted hood rests above a massive three-pronged grille. Standard 17-inch wheels keep the Edge in union with the pavement. The rear view spotlights a broad hatch and a body-colored bumper.
The list of optional features includes automatic headlights, a power liftgate, unique headlight and taillamp treatments, a body-colored grille, xenon headlights and a panoramic sunroof. Wheels ranging in size from 18 to 22 inches are available.
The Edge’s cabin is just as contemporary looking as its exterior. At the heart of it is a waterfall center console whose graceful lines host the interfaces for the crossover’s stereo and infotainment systems. The front seats offer agreeable support, even on longer commutes, and the rear outboard seats recline for maximum comfort. The 2013 Ford Edge provides 32 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row. With the rear seats folded, that measure jumps to 69 cubic feet.
Base models come with air conditioning and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Optional amenities such as dual-zone automatic climate control, a sub-floor cargo organizer, ambient lighting, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a six-way power-adjustable front passenger seat and an “EasyFold” second-row seat are offered.
Ride quality is gracious and smooth, and the 2013 Ford Edge impresses by providing a serene cabin environment that keeps road noise at bay. Base models come with a 3.5-liter V6 that gets 285 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque, and this powerplant has an EPA rating of up to 19/27 mpg city/highway. Buyers have the option of selecting a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, and this pick achieves mileage of up to 21/29 mpg. The final choice is a 3.7-liter V6 that generates 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, and this engine gets mileage of up to 19/26 mpg.
When properly equipped, the 2013 Ford Edge can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
The Edge comes with a pleasing array of available technology content. Base models are equipped with a CD player, an auxiliary audio jack and a six-speaker sound system. The list of options includes Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio, a Sync voice-command interface, navigation, USB/iPod connectivity, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a 12-speaker Sony sound system, HD radio, blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control and collision warning.

Love my car!
"I love my Ford Edge. Not only is it beautiful outside with Royal blue paint and fancy wheels, but it has been a great car with almost no repairs! Very reliable in Michigan winters. I'm so glad I purchased it. It's totally decked out with leather and all the bells and whistles."
