How Can VW Survive?
"A nice package but a bad joke as a machine. We took a 75% loss on resale on our 13 Tiguan with only 55k miles, it appears that the new car dealerships (vw included) auction nearly all used VW products. For good reasons; engine mechanical design problems related to the TSI engines include carbon buildup on intake manifold and intake valves, this little bit of maintenance is around $1500 and necessary every 60-90k miles. VW's powertrain warranty is for 60k and 3 years, I assume few; > 5% get this done under warranty. VW has distanced itself from these cars but still produces ones like them with questionable reliability updates. I'm done with VW, cost of ownership is unsustainable with their cars after 80,000 miles."

When not in the shop was a quick, nice handling car.

It will bankrupt the family.

You can EXPECT $3000-$4000 in maintenance/repairs between 60k and 120k miles. The RESALE value is an insult.

Love it
"The Tiguan has fabulous performance and handling. You feel roomy for a smaller vehicle and you have visibility not available in a car. The 2.0T is very quick and gets fabulous economy at the same time. Traction and control allow for a great feeling of confidence in inclement weather of off the pavement. And to top that off, it's got that German feel. Those who appreciate that feel know that you just don't get it in others, of any brand."

certainly not as large as some but can seat 5, adults maybe only 4 comfortably.

fuel economy is fabulous but it has that classic VW after purchase expensive service schedule, at least they spread it out to 10,000 mile intervals but after the factory free service ends at 36000 miles the things they defer to the 40,000 mile service will bankrupt you. just being honest.

It was priced very competively with its competition. Does use 91 octane. No upkeep data yet.

"Needed an AWD car to handle snowboard season in Sierras. The S trim with 4 motion is more than adequate for my needs. Although 2yrs old and 27K, this car drove as new. The TSI drivetrain has power when needed and can be economical when I want to be. Overall a great vehicle. If you were waiting for a TDI version, wait no more."

Interior

pretty sparse but functional and clean. Lots of cubby space, more than my old RX.

Used is the way to go since it appears to be overpriced new.

This is the reason to get this vehicle. 4-Motion is a must.

"we have had the vehicle just over a month now and she drives and rides wonderful. Carfax notified us on doing the report that there was a recall. That was taken care of within four day's of us having the vehicle. As the nearest VW dealer is almost 100 miles away. We had excellent service from the dealer we purchased from and excellent service from the VW dealer on the recall in fact they gave the vehicle a full inspection whilst doing the recall which was simple fix of sorting fuel pump for winterized fuel."
