The Nissan Maxima is a flagship sedan, sharing its platform with the midsize Altima. This front-wheel drive model offers premium features and is equipped with a sport-tuned suspension and vehicle-speed-sensitive steering.
The 2014 Maxima seats five and is available in S, SV, SV with Sport package, and SV with Premium package trims. One engine-transmission combination is offered.
Changes for 2014 encompass newly available optional equipment, including HID Xenon headlights and a rearview monitor with a seven-inch color display. Two new color choices were added.
The Nissan Maxima projects a powerful stance with strong shoulders and pronounced body lines and sculpting. The front fascia is marked by an upright upper grille hemmed in by wing-like headlights. The lower grille is offset by available fog lamps.
A muscular hood, high beltline, and pronounced wheel arches contribute to the Maxima’s sporty persona. The roofline flows into a rear deck amplified by stylish wraparound combination lights and dual exhaust tips. A decklid spoiler is available.
Wheel choices include standard 18- or available 19-inch aluminum-alloy designs wrapped within all-season tires. Summer tires are available.
The Maxima offers a premium interior with standard power front seats. Cloth seats are standard; leather-trimmed seats are available. Behind the front bucket seats is a 60/40 split-folding rear seat offering access to the trunk. Also available is rear bucket seats with room for three.
The cabin is dressed in soft-touch materials with woodgrain or real wood trim available. Aluminum door sill plate inserts, piano black touches, and available metallic trim are among the more notable features.
Standard equipment includes keyless entry and push-button start, a tilt and telescopic steering column, a thick leather-wrapped steering wheel, full power accessories, map and reading lights, illuminated visor lights, and dual-zone climate control.
A long list of optional features is available, depending on trim and package upgrades, including heated front seats, a ventilated driver’s seat, a rear-window power sunshade, mood lighting, heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, and a dual-panel moonroof.
The cargo space measures 14.2 cubic feet, coming in smaller than other models in this segment.
All 2014 Nissan Maxima models are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 290 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels by means of a continuously variable automatic transmission.
The EPA estimates fuel economy at 19/26 mpg city/highway.
The Nissan Maxima can be operated in standard, DS and manual modes; paddle shifters are available. The DS mode engages more aggressive shift logic for sportier feedback. The Maxima’s sport-tuned suspension includes a thick front stabilizer bar, stiffer springs along with high-performance front struts and rear shocks to minimize harshness and improve responsiveness. Steering is responsive and reacts to vehicle speed for more precise maneuvering.
The 2014 Maxima offers a standard eight-speaker audio system with a six-CD changer and an audio jack. Bluetooth audio streaming and two 12-volt outlets are included.
Also available is a nine-speaker Bose audio system with two woofers, a USB port, and satellite radio. An available tech package brings in a voice-recognition navigation system with a seven-inch touch-screen monitor. A rearview monitor is optional.
