All-wheel drive is incredibly useful in harsh weather, and it’s standard on the 2014 Subaru Impreza. The Impreza’s other strengths include a roomy cabin and rewarding performance.
The 2014 Subaru Impreza is a compact car that’s sold as either a sedan or a hatchback. Both body styles seat five passengers. There are five trim levels: base, Sport Premium, Premium, Sport Limited and Limited. For shoppers who want a car with truly memorable handling, two high-performance variants are offered: the WRX and WRX STI.
For the 2014 model year, the Impreza’s Limited trim adds a rearview camera as standard equipment. Aha smartphone integration has been added to the optional navigation system.
The 2014 Subaru Impreza’s exterior design is upbeat and modern. The car’s profile reveals a pleasantly rounded nose, and its side panels are embellished with deep character lines that span both wheel wells. Upswept headlights give the front fascia a dynamic look.
Base models are equipped with 15-inch steel wheels, daytime running lights, body-colored door handles and black foldable side mirrors. Upgrades include 16- or 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, roof rails, fog lights, heated body-colored side mirrors and chrome-accented door handles.
The cabin of the 2014 Impreza features a clean but somewhat sedate design. Interior components are solidly assembled, from the organically curved dash to the graceful center stack. Both rows offer good legroom, and the front seats remain agreeable even on long trips. The sedan provides 12 cubic feet of trunk capacity. Impreza hatchbacks provide 22.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place in and 52.4 cubic feet with the seats lowered.
Standard equipment includes a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way manually adjustable passenger seat, cloth upholstery, a 60/40-split folding rear bench seat, air conditioning and a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column. Optional equipment includes heated front seats, leather upholstery and automatic climate control.
Thanks to its standard all-wheel drive, the 2014 Subaru Impreza provides secure handling, and its ride quality is smooth and compliant. WRX and WRX STI models take things up a notch, offering the kind of thrilling performance that enthusiasts love. Buyers will choose between a continuously variable transmission and a five-speed manual.
Three engines are offered. Most models come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder good for 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine lives under the hood of the Impreza WRX, and it provides 265 horsepower and 244 pound-feet of torque. The WRX STI gets the same engine as the WRX, but it’s been tuned to deliver 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque.
Fuel economy tops out at an EPA-estimated 27/35 mpg city/highway.
The 2014 Impreza offers a nice range of tech amenities. Base models are equipped with a CD/MP3 player, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, a USB port and an auxiliary input jack.
Available upgrades include navigation, a rearview camera and satellite radio.

" The only downside to this car is the road noise. It could use a bit more sound insulation. Otherwise its a great car! AWD and really good mpg for an awd vehicle. Comfortable with good heater and ice cold air conditioning." Read Less
"I just bought this car from my daughter who was going to trade it in on a new car. I felt that the trade-in offer was less than it was worth. For the last 5 years, it has been very reliable and inexpensive to operate."
Holding up well for a 5-year old vehicle.
Holding up well for a 5-year old vehicle.
Great for around town, but lacks power climbing hills on the freeway.
Easy to keep clean, but hate the black interior.
This is its strong suit. The car is very cost-effective, with good gas mileage, minimal maintenance, and high reliability.
