The 2015 Ford C-Max is a great car for families on a budget. The starting point is an affordable price, but the C-Max also features a surprisingly roomy cabin. Despite the vehicle’s small footprint, it can handle three kids and almost 25 cubic feet of cargo at the same time. Ford’s hybrid technology helps you save on fuel, too.
The 2015 C-Max is a subcompact hatchback that seats five. It’s available in SE, SEL and Energi trim levels. Given the Ford’s focus on cargo space, the C-Max is a worthwhile alternative to the Toyota Prius v. The C-Max’s standard hybrid powertrain includes a four-cylinder engine, a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive. The C-Max Energi trim has plug-in capability.
For the 2015 model year, the lineup adds Magnetic and Tectonic as new exterior colors.
A tall design helps the 2015 Ford C-Max maintain its roomy cabin, and those proportions are set off by stylish details. The front end shows this with swept-back headlights and distinct openings for the low-profile upper grille, the hexagon-shaped lower grille and the wide lower intake. At the rear, a prominent bumper step is a sign of the vehicle’s functionality.
The C-Max comes with halogen headlights, black rocker-panel moldings, a rear spoiler, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and power mirrors with integrated turn signals and blind-spot mirrors. You can get the C-Max with fog lamps, a panoramic fixed-glass roof, heated mirrors and a hands-free rear liftgate.
The 2015 C-Max has a notably expressive multilevel dashboard. It comes with a molded upper piece for the infotainment system, a middle section that flows down into the gear-shift console and a lower level for the glove box. Freeform outboard climate vents are another interesting touch. The car also includes a standard 60/40-split folding rear seat. In the 2015 C-Max hybrid, you get 24.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind those seats and 52.6 cubic feet overall. The plug-in hybrid version provides 19.2 cubic feet of storage room with all seats in use, and this expands to 42.8 cubic feet with the back row folded.
Standard equipment includes cloth upholstery, a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way manually adjustable passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. The C-Max is available with heated front seats in cloth or leather, and if you opt for leather, the driver’s seat has 10-way power adjustability.
The C-Max hybrid SE is the base model and comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 1.4-kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor. This powertrain makes a total of 188 horsepower. With the C-Max Energi plug-in model, a 7.6-kWh battery is standard, and up to 195 horsepower is available. All models have a CVT and front-wheel drive.
The conventional hybrid model has fuel economy ratings of 41/36 mpg city/highway. The plug-in edition provides a 19-mile all-electric driving range.
The standard Sync infotainment system bundles a 4.2-inch dash display, a 4.2-inch instrument-panel display, Bluetooth, an AM/FM stereo, a CD player, an auxiliary input jack and six speakers. Infotainment options include a navigation system, an upgraded Sync with MyFord touch system, an 8-inch touchscreen, an SD card reader, two USB ports, satellite radio, HD Radio and a nine-speaker Sony audio system.
The C-Max is available with parallel parking assistance, a rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors.
