The 2015 Ford F-250 is a solid choice if you’re shopping for a big pickup truck. In fact, the F-250 offers a higher maximum tow rating than the 2014 version. Ford can meet your demand for pickup luxury, too, with upscale features and premium seating. Some rivals, however, can supply even more capability and technology.
The F-250 is a heavy-duty pickup from Ford’s line of Super Duty trucks. It’s available with two bed lengths and three cab styles. There’s seating for six in the largest cabin. The 2015 F-250 comes in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trim levels. A V8 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard. You can get the F-250 with an optional turbodiesel V8 and four-wheel drive.
That diesel engine has been retuned for more power this year, and the King Ranch trim has been redesigned for higher levels of luxury.
The 2015 Ford F-250 matches the rest of the F Series Super Duty family with a bold and distinctive face. The look includes two large grille bars that are set off by bracket-shaped trim, stacked headlights and a raised hood. Ford offers the F-250 in a two-door regular cab setup and in two four-door configurations. The SuperCab adds two rear-hinged access doors, and the crew cab has front-hinged rear doors instead. You can choose from 6.75- or 8-foot cargo beds as well.
Manually adjustable mirrors, front tow hooks, a lockable tailgate, front and rear bumper steps, an integrated tailgate step and 17-inch painted wheels are standard. The F-250 also is available with a power moonroof, fog lamps, roof clearance lamps, heated power-adjustable mirrors, cab steps and 17-, 18- and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Bold geometric shapes are on display in the F-250’s cabin. These range from the square center-cap on the steering wheel to the rectangular trim panel in front of the passenger. For a stylish contrast, the center climate vents are large circles. Facing the dash is a standard 40/20/40 front bench seat. In the SuperCab, a 60/40-split rear bench is standard with flip-up seat bottoms. A 60/40-split rear bench also is standard in the crew cab, but with both flip-up bottoms and fold-down backs.
The base F-250 is a work truck that comes with manually adjustable seating, vinyl upholstery, air conditioning, manual windows, manual door locks and a manually adjustable steering column. It does offer many of the same high-end options you can find on the Ford F-150 light-duty pickup. This includes leather upholstery, heated and ventilated 10-way power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, power-adjustable pedals and a heated leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a walnut wood accent.
The 2015 F-250 is no slouch when it comes to work. The starting point is Ford’s standard 6.2-liter V8, which makes 385 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. The F-250 gets a bigger turbocharger for its optional Power Stroke diesel engine. As a result, this turbodiesel 6.7-liter V8 delivers 440 horsepower and 860 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard with both engines. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional across the lineup.
The 2015 F-250 has a maximum tow rating of 16,800 pounds.
Note that fuel economy ratings for heavy-duty trucks aren’t published by the EPA.
A two-speaker AM/FM stereo is standard for the F-250. Available features include a rearview camera, an 8-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, satellite radio, dual USB ports, an auxiliary input jack and an eight-speaker Sony audio system with a CD player.

Great Towing Truck
"I have a diesel Platinum and it is a comfortable, strong truck for towing. I pull a 13,000 pound 5th wheel in Colorado and the combination of horsepower and torque for pulling up the passes and the exhaust brake for control going downhill is awesome. Overall, I get about 9-10 mpg when towing the heavy load which I consider to be excellent." Read Less
