A premium ownership experience is a key selling point for the 2015 GMC Sierra 3500HD. The truck offers a wide range of upscale options, from mobile Wi-Fi to climate-controlled seats. There’s even a dedicated luxury model at the top of the range. The lineup provides serious capability, too.
The Sierra 3500HD is a full-size heavy-duty pickup truck. It’s offered with two cargo-bed sizes and in three cab styles. The largest has room for six people. You can also choose from the base Sierra, SLE, SLT or Denali trim levels. The Sierra 3500HD comes standard with a V8 gas engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. A diesel-powered V8, four-wheel drive and dual rear wheels are optional. The Ford F-350 Super Duty and Ram 3500 are among the truck’s top rivals.
Refreshed and redesigned this year, the 2015 Sierra 3500HD gets new standard rear bumper steps and a stability control system with integrated trailer sway control. New options include an upgraded infotainment system, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning and a double-cab body style.
The GMC Sierra 3500HD features the bold design of a modern-day heavy-duty truck. It all starts with a massive vertical grille, prominent bumpers and distinctive, squared-off fenders. The regular-cab models have two doors, and the double cab adds two smaller forward-hinged rear doors. You get four traditional doors with the crew cabs. GMC also offers regular- and long-bed configurations with 6’6” and 8’ cargo boxes, respectively.
Standard content includes projector-style halogen headlights, daytime running lights, front recovery hooks, rear bumper steps, a locking tailgate and 18-inch painted steel wheels. The 3500HD supplies options like LED signature lighting, LED cargo-box lighting, a power sunroof, a damped tailgate, assist steps and heated power-adjustable and power-folding mirrors. There are optional 17-, 18- and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as well.
The 2015 Sierra 3500HD has a strong and rugged center-stack design that matches its powerful-looking grille. A wide multi-gauge instrument panel, dual glove boxes and a molded dash are also on display. In the regular cab models, a 40/20/40 front bench is standard. Double cab models come with a standard folding rear bench and are available with 60/40-split folding rear seats. The latter setup is standard for the crew cab.
The base Sierra 3500HD is equipped with cloth upholstery, manually adjustable seats, manual air conditioning, manual windows, power door locks and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel with integrated cruise controls. Available features include leather upholstery, power-adjustable climate-controlled front seats, front bucket seats, power windows, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping column.
A 6.0-liter V8 engine is standard with 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. That unit is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Sierra 3500HD is available with a turbodiesel 6.6-liter V8 which is good for 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is also standard for this engine, and it’s from Allison, which is a well-regarded supplier of commercial gearboxes. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is optional.
The truck’s maximum towing capacity is 23,200 pounds with the diesel engine and four-wheel drive.

The standard audio system combines a 4.2-inch display, an AM/FM stereo, a USB port, an auxiliary input jack, an SD card reader and four speakers. The Sierra 3500HD is also available with an 8-inch touchscreen, mobile Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a navigation system, satellite radio and a seven-speaker Bose audio system.
