The 2015 Porsche Panamera is just as fast as the brand’s sports cars, with enough power to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.8 seconds, and room for four passengers and their cargo. For flagship-style luxury, Porsche offers climate-controlled seating for all passengers.
The Panamera is a premium midsize hatchback that has four seats and comes in eight different trim levels. Trim levels start with a base Panamera model and continue with the Panamera 4, S, 4S, S E-Hybrid, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S. The 4S, Turbo and Turbo S are further available as “Executive models” that increase rear-seat legroom by about 6 inches. The standard powertrain for the Panamera includes a six-cylinder engine, seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional.
The Turbo S makes its debut for 2015 and delivers the best performance in the lineup. There’s more equipment in other models as well, like newly standard LED headlights for the Turbo trim.
The Panamera borrows key design cues from the iconic Porsche 911. They include rounded headlights, muscular front fenders and a swept-back roofline. Large vents behind the front wheels, along with a sleek shape, help emphasize the car’s “go-fast” attitude.
Bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED brake lights, dual-exhaust outlets, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and heated power-folding mirrors are standard for the Panamera. Porsche’s adaptive lighting system and LED headlights are optional. So are a power sunroof, mirror-mounted LED courtesy lighting, quad exhaust outlets, an adaptive four-way rear spoiler, and 19- and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
The car’s clean dashboard design features a single molded upper level that forms the instrument-panel hood. A full-length center console splits the cabin and runs between the two individual rear seats. With those seats in use, the base Panamera model supplies 15.7 cubic feet of rear storage. You can also fit up to 44.6 cubic feet of cargo by folding the rear seats down. Due to their different hardware, models with optional powertrains have a bit less cargo space.
The Panamera provides standard luxury equipment including heated power-adjustable leather seats, automatic dual-zone climate controls, cruise control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. In models with the available Sport Chrono package, the dash is topped off by a standard stopwatch. Premium seating upgrades are another highlight for the car. These options range from 18-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated sport seats in front to eight-way power-adjustable climate-controlled seats in the back. Also available are a heated steering wheel, four-zone automatic climate control and cabin trim made of wood, carbon fiber or aluminum.
The standard engine for the Panamera and Panamera 4 is a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 that makes 310 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The S and 4S trims are equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, and this unit raises output to 420 horsepower with 384 pound-feet of torque.
A naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 is standard in the GTS, where it produces 440 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. The Turbo and Turbo S rely on differently tuned twin-turbo V8 engines. You get 520 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque with the Turbo and 570 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque with the Turbo S.
A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard for all of these trim levels. Rear-wheel drive is standard for the Panamera and Panamera S, while all of the other gas-only trims are configured with standard all-wheel drive.
The Panamera S E-Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid model with an eight-speed automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, a supercharged 3.0-liter V6, a nickel-metal hydride battery and an electric motor. That setup combines for 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the Panamera’s battery can enable a 15-mile all-electric driving range. The total driving range of the Panamera plug-in hybrid is 540 miles.
The standard fuel economy ratings for the Panamera are 18/28 mpg city/highway.
Rear parking sensors are standard for the 2015 Panamera. Standard infotainment technology includes a navigation system, a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, an audio DVD/CD player, a 40GB hard drive and 11 speakers.
The Panamera also gets safety options like adaptive cruise control, automatic forward emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, forward-collision warning, front parking sensors, lane-departure warning and either a rearview or a surround-view camera system. As for high-level infotainment features, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and a 1,000-watt Burmester audio system are available.
