The 2016 Audi S7 offers an appealing combination of performance and premium features. If you like a sporty driving experience, you’ll enjoy the car’s standard V8 engine. But you also can relax with content such as optional massaging front seats. The car’s distinctive body style is surprisingly practical, too.
That’s because the 2016 Audi S7 is a midsize premium sport sedan with a roof-mounted liftgate instead of a traditional trunk. The S7 distinguishes itself with two individual rear seats and room for four people overall. A single trim is available for 2016. It has a standard seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
For 2016, the S7 welcomes a new mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, updated design elements, an enhanced all-wheel-drive system and more power.
The long roofline for the 2016 Audi S7 ensures a sleek, athletic appearance. That’s complemented by model-specific design cues for the grille, side sills and rear of the vehicle. Quad exhaust outlets are another sharp detail at the back of the S7.
Moving back up front, the S7 provides LED headlights that are set off by LED signature daytime running lights. There are standard LEDs for the taillights and rear fog lights as well. The S7’s long list of standard content also covers a power sunroof, a hands-free trunk, an adaptive rear spoiler, 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and heated, power-folding exterior mirrors. For a more aggressive look, Audi offers a “Black Optic” package. This combines gloss-black exterior accents and 20- or 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
The 2016 Audi S7 shows off a luxurious interior that’s dressed up with high-quality materials. This includes standard cabin inlays made from real ash, along with aluminum for the sill inlays. The design also is impressively attractive. One highlight is the way the Audi created a driver-focused environment that spans from the left-side door pull to the center climate vents. To handle cargo, you’ll find 24.7 cubic feet of storage beneath the car’s rear liftgate. Fold both of the standard 50/50-split rear seats, and you’ll see a significant (but unpublished) increase in carrying capacity.
The standard content for the S7 reflects its premium positioning. Right off the bat, the standard front seats are heated with 12-way power adjustability and quilted leather surfaces. Also standard are luxury cues such as four-zone automatic climate control, leather-wrapped armrests and a multifunction steering wheel with a sport-style flat-bottomed rim and power-adjustable column. The S7 further provides a number of key comfort options. These include heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated 18-way power-adjustable front seats with massage capability.
The S7 has what it takes to satisfy many enthusiasts. The foundation here is a standard 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 that makes 450 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. It’s 30 more horsepower than in the 2015 S7. To take full advantage of that output, the S7 adds standard features such as a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, all-wheel drive and an adaptive air suspension.
The 2016 Audi S7 achieves EPA ratings of 17/27 mpg city/highway.
For standard driver assistance, the S7 includes more than just the usual rearview camera. Audi also supplies a standard blind-spot system and both front and rear parking sensors. The S7 then serves up even more standard infotainment technology. The standard setup bundles a pop-up 8-inch display screen, a console-mounted controller, handwriting recognition, navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio, HD Radio and 14-speaker Bose audio system. A head-up display also is standard.
Beyond all that, the 2016 Audi S7 can offer upgrades for both safety and infotainment technology. The former includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking and a 360-degree camera system. Among the other top tech options are a night-vision system and a 1,300-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system.
