The 2016 Audi TTS is the sportier twin of the Audi TT. If you come away from the TT wanting even more performance, the TTS is ideal. Some will bemoan the lack of a manual transmission or rear-wheel drive. Even with these downsides, the TTS is a capable year-round sports car.
The 2016 Audi TTS is a luxury sports car that seats four. The two-door coupe comes in one well-equipped trim. A high-performance four-cylinder engine pairs with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. All-wheel drive is standard.
The TTS is all new for 2016.
The previous generation of the 2016 Audi TTS wasn’t loved by all. The new model, though, shares a lot of design cues with the original, which gained fame for its bold sheet metal. Take one look at the TTS, and you know it’s a fast and competent sports car. The angular headlights, massive grille and pentagonal air intakes create a scowling face. The sharp front end contrasts with a raked roofline and rear end. Wide, thickset taillights and bulbous fenders provide an imposing stance. A chiseled rear bumper and prominent rear diffuser round out the sporty touches.
The TTS comes with a quad exhaust system, LED headlights and taillights, heated mirrors, an adaptive rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels. Optional features include red brake calipers, summer performance tires and upgraded wheels.
The cabin of the 2016 TTS is a luxury lover’s dream. The most noticeable thing is the lack of a traditional infotainment screen and center console. Instead, Audi has moved the infotainment system in front of the driver, where an instrument gauge cluster typically would sit. The radical design creates an airy feel in the cabin, which is strange given the vehicle’s size. The attractive front seats are supportive and comfortable, but passengers in the back likely will be cramped. The TTS features upscale materials that are put together well and give the vehicle a high-end feel.
Standard features include a three-spoke flat-bottom sport steering wheel, matte brushed aluminum inlays, leather/Alcantara heated seats, 12-way power front sport seats, automatic climate control and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Nappa leather seats are an option.
The 2016 Audi TTS is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 292 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Combine the engine, quick-shifting transmission and grippy all-wheel-drive system, and the TTS can get to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
Fuel economy comes in at an impressive 23/27 mpg city/highway.
The TTS is a high-performance sports car, and it all starts with the potent powertrain. The turbocharged engine delivers blazing performance, and the transmission’s shifts are lightning fast. With its compact and lightweight design, the TTS corners admirably. It also bumps well and never feels harsh. The TTS’ major selling point, though, is that it’s comfortable in everyday situations, which often isn’t the case for quick sports cars.
The 2016 TTS will appeal to tech lovers. In addition to an infotainment system that sits immediately in front of the steering wheel, it comes with handwriting-recognition technology, a nine-speaker audio system, a CD player, MP3 playback capability, HD Radio, satellite radio, Bluetooth, dual SD card slots, voice control, a HomeLink garage opener and rear acoustic parking sensors.
Optional features include a Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker sound system, navigation, a rearview camera, front acoustic parking sensors and lane change assist.
