Thanks to its exceptional towing capacity, the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe is an ideal fit for drivers who haul heavy loads. The Tahoe’s strengths include a high-quality cabin and smooth driving dynamics.
The 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe is a full-size SUV that comes in three trims: LS, LT and LTZ. Depending on the seating configuration, it can accommodate as many as nine passengers. Rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models are available.
For 2016, the Tahoe adds an 8-inch color touch screen, mobile Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration to its list of standard features. Safety features such as lane-keep assist and forward collision warning are now available.
The Tahoe’s sheet metal is brawny and assertive. In front, a blocky grille is flanked by stacked headlights. This Chevy has an upright, angular look, with a tall greenhouse and squared-off wheel wells.
Base models come with projector-beam headlights, daytime running lights, LED tail lights, heated power-adjustable side mirrors, a capless fueling system, black side steps and 18-inch wheels. The list of available features includes HID headlights, fog lights, LED daytime running lights, a hands-free power liftgate, 20- or 22-inch wheels and power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
The Tahoe’s cockpit emphasizes functionality and comfort, and it’s home to premium materials and ergonomic design. This large SUV comes standard with front bucket seats, a 60/40-split folding second-row bench seat and a 50/50-split fold-flat third-row seat, and these amenities provide seating for eight passengers. Second-row captain’s chairs are available, and these drop seating capacity to seven. An optional 40/20/40-split front bench seat allows the Tahoe to seat up to nine passengers. With the third row in place, the Tahoe delivers 15.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and this expands to 51.7 cubic feet with the third row lowered. With both the second and third rows lowered, cargo space swells to 94.7 cubic feet.
Standard amenities include tri-zone automatic climate control, cloth upholstery and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Upgrades such as heated and cooled front seats, leather upholstery, heated second-row seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, a heated steering wheel and an auto-dimming rearview mirror are available.
The Tahoe provides a muscular engine and a quiet cabin. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard, and four-wheel drive is available.
Under the hood is a 5.3-liter V8 engine good for 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This Chevy can tow up to 8,600 pounds, and it has EPA-rated fuel efficiency of up to 16/23 mpg city/highway.
Even the base-model Tahoe comes with an impressive array of technology content. Standard features include an 8-inch touch screen, a rearview camera, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, mobile Wi-Fi, satellite radio, a six-speaker sound system, HD radio, an auxiliary input jack and five USB ports.
Optional equipment includes forward collision warning, lane-departure alert, a head-up display, front parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, a premium nine- or 10-speaker audio system, navigation, keyless ignition, wireless device charging and a rear-seat entertainment system with a Blu-ray player.
"Chevrolet has come a long way. I've owned every major brand out there and this Tahoe is by far the most comfortable and user friendly. The technology is heads and shoulders above other vehicles within this class."
Cost effective? No. But I am not buying a Prius (sp?).
