The 2016 Dodge Viper is a car that puts performance first. That means features such as a powerful V10 engine and Brembo brakes are standard, while options include track-friendly aero packages. The Viper offers some premium cues as well, such as two upscale audio systems and leather cabin surfaces. Dodge complements the Viper’s expressive design with an extensive customization program. More than 25 million build combinations are available.
A two-seat sports car, the 2016 Dodge Viper is available in four trims: SRT, GTC, GTS and the new ACR. A six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard.
For 2016, the Viper ACR sets new performance benchmarks thanks to carbon-ceramic brakes and other upgrades.
This Viper is about an inch shorter than a 2016 Honda Civic coupe. You won’t confuse the two, however. The Viper has a long, low-slung look, with a curvy shape and vented bodywork. Check out the distinctive cooling vents behind the front wheels, on the hood and at the rear of the car. There, they blend in just below the wide taillights.
All Vipers come with premium lighting. High-intensity-discharge headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights are standard, as are power-adjustable exterior mirrors and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. In addition, to keep down weight, the Viper’s standard hood and roof are made from carbon fiber. Many 18- and 19-inch wheel designs are available. As mentioned earlier, option packages and higher trims can be ordered with a huge variety of aero elements, graphics and exterior colors.
A driver-focused cockpit is evident from the start. To emphasize that layout, a full-length console splits the cabin. A large structural element separates the gearshift from the passenger’s side. Circular climate vents and stitched door panels then provide an upscale touch. The Viper supplies a practical trunk, too, with a capacity of 14.7 cubic feet.
Standard content also includes six-way manually adjustable seats, air conditioning and leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with a tiltable column. Power-adjustable seats are available, as are a variety of leather surfaces and wraps for the seats and steering wheel. The Viper’s option packages offer design features such as carbon-fiber accents.
The Viper delivers on its performance promise with a standard 8.4-liter V10 engine. This unit produces 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Also appealing for enthusiasts is the single powertrain for the Viper. Naturally, it pairs standard rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. The Viper’s many performance options range from a 10-setting driver-adjustable suspension to carbon-ceramic matrix brakes.
The Viper has EPA fuel-economy ratings of 12/21 mpg city/highway.
The Viper provides a rearview camera as part of an uplevel standard infotainment system. This setup includes an 8.4-inch touch screen, navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio services and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with two subwoofers. The display can also be used to show reconfigurable screens with key performance metrics.
Two audio choices are optional for the Viper. If you want to pump up the bass, an 18-speaker system from Harman Kardon supplies four subwoofers. If you want to maximize weight savings, a three-speaker system is available.
