The 2016 Ford Edge SUV offers family-friendly midsize versatility, and it’s nimble enough to be a pleasant companion in the city. The Edge is a great choice for shoppers seeking an SUV that’s bigger than a compact but not quite as massive as a full-size crossover.
Ford’s Edge provides seating for five, is available in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations and comes in four trims: SE, SEL, Titanium and Sport. For 2016, the Edge is available with Sync 3, the latest generation of Ford’s driver-connectivity system. An adaptive steering system that adjusts the input required across different driving situations is now available on the Titanium trim and standard on Sport models.
The 2016 Ford Edge looks solid and sleek from every angle. Up front, an assertive grille is bordered by tapered headlights. Deep character lines and pronounced wheel flares give the Edge a sculpted profile, while the rear view features a tall hatch bisected by narrow tail lamps. Base models come with 18-inch wheels, automatic halogen headlamps with wiper activation, daytime running lamps, power mirrors, body-color door handles, a body-color rear spoiler, rear privacy glass and LED tail lamps. Upgrades include heated mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, LED signature lighting, a hands-free liftgate and 19-, 20- or 21-inch wheels.
The Edge’s cabin is pleasant to spend time in, with soft-touch surfaces providing a premium feel. With the second row in place, you’ll have 39.2 cubic feet available for your belongings, and with this row folded, capacity expands to 73.4 cubic feet. Base models feature a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, 60/40 split-folding rear seats and power windows and door locks. Available features include power-adjustable front-seats, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, aluminum pedals and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
While lots of crossovers claim to have carlike handling, the Edge actually makes good on this promise, and it feels stable and poised in virtually all situations. All models come with a six-speed automatic transmission, and three engines are available. The standard engine on all trims except the Sport is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder providing 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. With front-wheel drive, this engine helps the Edge achieve an EPA rating of 20/30 mpg city/highway, while all-wheel drive models get 20/28 mpg. The Sport trim is motivated by a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 good for 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. This engine is only offered with all-wheel drive, and it delivers 17/24 mpg. A 3.5-liter V6 is optional on certain trims, and it produces 280 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, with EPA ratings of up to 18/26 mpg city/highway. Certain Edge models can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
In base trim, the Edge comes with push-button start, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a rearview camera and Ford’s voice-activated Sync system. Upgrades include the newer and more user-friendly Sync 3 system with an 8-inch touch screen, a smart charging media bin, a dual-headrest DVD system and a premium sound system with HD radio and satellite radio. Driver assistance features like forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning are also offered.
"I searched for two years for my car, I researched many different Suv's, with all the things I was looking for in my choice. The Ford Edge Titanium won out for me. I have absolutely enjoyed my vehicle & honestly have not found one thing that I don't like about it. "
I chose the black leather & love the way it feels & cleans up. I like the comfort & space.
I chose the silver/light gray, so sharp looking.
It drives so smooth & keeps the outside noise down. I have good gas mileage.
I can ride up to 6 person(s) in my vehicle comfortably. The space in the back is big enough, I can put all kinds of items in it.
I haven't had any problems to have any major cost at all, other than the normal oil changes & maintenance.
