Carrying over much of the power and function from previous years, the 2016 Ford F-250 is a proven and capable work truck. An available diesel engine features best-in-class horsepower ratings, which results in excellent payload and towing capacities. The result is a heavy-duty truck that’s ready for the work site or a fifth-wheel.
The 2016 Ford F-250 is available in five different trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. The F-250 comes in three different cab lengths, Regular, SuperCab and a roomy CrewCab. Regular cabs have two doors and seat up to three passengers. SuperCab and CrewCab models feature four doors and can fit as many as six passengers. Buyers can choose from a 6-foot-7-inch or an 8-foot-3-inch bed. A six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard, and four-wheel drive can be added as an upgrade.
Little has been changed for the 2016 F-250. Optional extras like LED strobe lights and a rear camera prep kit have been added this year.
A big, rectangular grille and tall stance build an image of rugged toughness for the 2016 Ford F-250. Large headlights and an available dual-wheel rear axle can help make big jobs feel a little smaller. The 2016 Ford F-250 comes with halogen headlights, a removable tailgate, front tow hooks, manual telescoping side mirrors, a black grille, black bumpers and 17-inch painted steel wheels.
Available upgrades include side steps, chrome bumpers, a chrome grille and alloy wheels that range from 17- to 20-inches in diameter. A power sliding moonroof, a power tailgate, four-corner LED strobe lights, a tailgate access step and power telescopic side mirrors are also offered.
The F-250’s interior ranges from functional and basic in the XL model, to the luxurious and comfortable in the Platinum trim. Bench seating in front has enough room for three adults. Most drivers will find the standard seating comfortable. The popular SuperCab offers ample interior space for five or six passengers across two rows of seats.
The base 2016 Ford F-250 includes features like an overhead console, two 12-volt power points, a 40/20/40-split folding bench, cloth upholstery, manual windows, air conditioning and manual door locks. Available upgrades for the interior include leather upholstery, front bucket seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, wood grain accents and a leather-wrapped power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.
The 2016 Ford F-250 owes much of its capability to two available engine choices. A standard 6.2-liter V8 provides 385 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. An optional turbodiesel 6.7-liter V8 has 440 horsepower and 860 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are attached to a six-speed automatic transmission with a tow/haul mode. The 2016 Ford F-250 comes standard with rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is an available upgrade.
The EPA does not post fuel economy estimates for heavy-duty trucks like the Ford F-250.
When equipped with the right options, the 2016 Ford F-250 has a maximum towing capacity of 16,600 pounds. Maximum payload is 4,040 pounds.
As a functional work truck, the base F-250 comes sparsely equipped. Standard tech features are an AM/FM radio, a two-speaker audio system and a driver information center. Upgrades include a Sony eight-speaker premium audio system, an 8-inch touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports and navigation.
A rearview camera with hitch assist and rear parking sensors are also offered.
