The 2016 Infiniti Q70 is one of the sportier choices in its segment, offering powerful engines and athletic handling. You’ll drive in style and comfort, too, because the Q70 combines a sleek and flowing design with an upscale cabin.
A full-size luxury sedan, the 2016 Infiniti Q70 has seating for five. It’s available in Q70 3.7 and Q70 5.6 trims. A seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. (We review the 2016 Infiniti Q70 Hybrid and the long-wheelbase 2016 Infiniti Q70L separately.)
For 2016, the Q70 welcomes a Premium Select Edition package.
The Q70 boasts a curvy, fluid shape. Subtle sculpting over the wheels emphasizes the look, as do long, swept-back headlights. The face of the Q70 also is distinguished by Infiniti’s traditional “pinched-in” grille and foglight pockets with aerodynamic trim pieces. A rear diffuser and dual exhaust outlets bring sport-sedan styling to the back of the car.
As Infiniti’s flagship sedan, the Q70 comes with nearly all equipment as standard. This includes LED headlights, LED foglights and LED brake lights. In addition, the Q70 supplies a standard power moonroof, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and heated power-folding exterior mirrors with a reverse tilt-down function. The Q70 upgrade packages offer enhancements such as 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and adaptive headlights.
A detailed cabin is another highlight. Here, attractive cues include a sculpted wraparound dash, a prominent hood for the instrument cluster and a deeply inset infotainment screen. Below that is a wide center stack with a high-tech appearance. This, in turn, meets a strong center console with a flowing border that recalls the car’s exterior lines. The Q70 supplies 14.9 cubic feet of trunk capacity, though it doesn’t offer folding rear seats.
Standard equipment includes 10-way power-adjustable heated front seats, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel on a power-adjustable column, dual-zone automatic climate control and wood trim. For higher levels of comfort, you can turn to the Q70’s option packages. These can provide climate-controlled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, semi-aniline leather surfaces and quilted upholstery.
The Q70 3.7 earns its name from a 3.7-liter V6. That standard engine produces 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. It’s enough for confident, competitive levels of performance. Moving up to the Q70 5.6 means you get a 5.6-liter V8 that delivers a significant boost in output with 420 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard. Each trim offers all-wheel drive and a sport-tuned suspension.
The Q70 earns EPA ratings of 18/25 mpg city/highway with the standard powertrain.
As for standard technology, the Q70 can’t match rivals that have a touch screen or Bluetooth for streaming audio. However, the standard tech bundle from Infiniti features a rearview camera, a 7-inch infotainment display, Bluetooth for hands-free calling, satellite radio and six audio speakers.
The Q70 also offers some fairly advanced safety options. Leading the way are forward automatic braking, reverse automatic braking and predictive forward-collision warning. The latter system can monitor not only the vehicle ahead of the Q70, but the vehicle ahead of that, too. Other tech options include adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot system, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors and a 360-degree bird’s-eye-view camera system. For premium infotainment, a navigation-based setup bundles an 8-inch touch screen, Bluetooth audio streaming and real-time traffic and weather services. If you love music, two Bose audio systems are available, one with surround sound and 16 speakers.
