The 2016 Lexus ES offers the smooth handing you expect from vehicles made by this premier automaker, and it provides accommodations that are both roomy and swank. This Lexus also comes with a long list of available feature content.
The Lexus ES is a midsize luxury sedan that seats five, and it’s sold in a single, well-appointed trim. Both gas-only (ES 350) and hybrid (ES 300h) powertrains are offered, and all models are front-wheel drive.
The ES has been updated for 2016 with revised styling at the front and rear, highlighted by Lexus’ signature spindle-shaped grille. New wheel designs and exterior colors are offered, along with fresh interior trim finishes and adjusted option-package content.
The Lexus ES is a well-proportioned midsize sedan that stands out by virtue of the brand’s oversized spindle-shaped grille. Whether you love it or hate it, it makes a bold statement. The car features gracefully curved lines front to rear. There’s a tallish trunk in back, with angular design elements and horizontal taillights.
Standard features include LED headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, a moonroof and heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals. Exterior options include upgraded bi-LED headlamps, rain-sensing windshield wipers, LED daytime running lights, a one-touch power-opening trunk, a panoramic roof and 18-inch alloy wheels.
This Lexus uses top-quality materials and soft-touch surfaces throughout its cabin. Overall, the interior has a rich look and feel. Both front and rear seats offer lots of room for passengers. With gas-only models, the trunk provides 15.2 cubic feet of cargo space. Trunk space shrinks to 12.1 cubic feet with the hybrid.
Standard interior items include 10-way power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a rear-seat trunk pass-through and simulated leather upholstery. Options include leather upholstery, wood trim, a heated steering wheel, a power rear sunshade, a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats.
The Lexus ES provides ride and handling characteristics tuned to deliver a driving experience that’s more comfortable than sporty. Steering is easygoing around town, and the suspension takes both bumps and broken pavement in stride. The ES 350 is governed by a six-speed automatic, while the ES 300h is equipped with a continuously variable transmission. All ES sedans are front-wheel drive.
Lexus ES 350 sedans come with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out a strong 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid-powered ES 300h uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as its primary power source and augments it with an electric motor and a self-charging battery pack. It produces a combined 200 horsepower.
The ES 350 is rated at 21/31 mpg city/highway. The ES 300h is estimated at a more-frugal 40/39 mpg.
The Lexus ES offers a full selection of the latest technology. Standard features include Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, a rearview camera, a 7-inch display screen, an eight-speaker sound system and HD and satellite radio. Also standard is a fingertip-operated joystick-like controller on the center console, which can be clumsy (and distracting) to operate.
Options include navigation, an audiophile-grade Mark Levinson audio system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beam headlamps and adaptive cruise control.

User Reviews for 2016 Lexus ES
by PJK on June 21, 2019
"I cant imagine many cars being as good as the Lexus ES. Smooth ride, quiet, great options including: navigation (outstanding system with weather forecast and accidents), rain sensitive windshield, satellite radio, over 30 mpg highway with a smooth 3.5 V6. Just a terrific car."
"This car included most options. I have found the cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and active cruise control to be extremely useful. I bought the car for its reputation of quiet and smooth and it hasn't disappointed.
Beautiful use of soft colors and leathers
It has a very average every day car look. Nice but almost too subtle
More than I will ever need
It could use a larger trunk. Its adequate but not always enough for road trips
Good fuel economy and lower than average depreciation rates make it practical financially
"Great car. Had a Genesis that I loved, couldn't find another so I went with the Lexus. Good things on both, somethings the Lexus has that the Genesis doesn't and Visa versa. Genesis heavier, Lexus faster but love them both. Great car, fully recommend them both!"
