The Lexus LS is the flagship of the Lexus brand. It features class-leading luxury and comfort, all powered by a capable V8 engine. It also boasts some of the roomiest interiors in its segment.
The 2016 Lexus LS seats five. It’s available in 460, 460 L, F-Sport and 600h L trims. The LS 460 is available with a standard or extended wheelbase. The 600h L offers a hybrid powertrain and extended wheelbase. All trims offer all-wheel drive.
Aside from some minor infotainment improvements, the 2016 Lexus LS is mostly unchanged.
The sheet metal of the 2016 Lexus LS stands out among its peers, capturing the aggressive front lines of a performance sedan and combining them with the classic profile of a luxury cruiser. An attractive looking side profile is punctuated by a distinct grille. LED headlamps and side illumination lights provide stylish lighting at night.
Eighteen-inch wheels and a sunroof are standard on all trims.
Lexus pays significant attention to the insides of their vehicles. As the flagship car, the 2016 Lexus LS offers a cabin that has been made with some of the best materials on the market. A well-designed dashboard with intuitive controls is highlighted by a large display screen. While the base model is well-appointed, wood trims are available up the trim line, as well as aluminum on F-Sport models.
A long list of standard features includes heated seats and a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Available for extended wheelbase trims is an Executive Class package that adds plush, reclining seats. Also included in this package are upgraded leather seats, a rear ottoman with integrated chilled storage and powered sunshades.
Cargo capacity maxes out at 18 cubic feet. The longer wheelbase 460 L and 600h have just 13 cubic feet of trunk space.
While a bit slower than other full-sized luxury cars, the 2016 Lexus LS is powered by a capable 4.6-liter V8 engine. It makes 386 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque in rear-wheel drive. In all-wheel-drive models, that output falls to 360 horsepower and 347 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy on the base, rear-wheel drive LS 460 standard length comes in at 16/24 mpg city/highway. The hybrid powertrain in LS 600h L models consists of a 5.0-liter V8 combined with two electric motors to make 438 horsepower systemwide. Fuel economy gets a slight boost, thanks to the hybrid system, to 19/23 mpg city/highway
The V8 engine in 460, 460 L and F-sport trims is matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 600h L has a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Ride quality is matched only by the interior quality. Road noise is all but completely eliminated. Most road bumps and engine noise are barely noticeable while driving. Depending on the drive mode, there is occasional body sway in turns. Acceleration is brisk, though slower than its competitors. Steering responsiveness is muted, however, leaving drivers feeling somewhat disconnected from the road.
Featured at the center of the LS’ technology-packed dash is a 12.3-inch high-definition screen. Navigation, Bluetooth and USB connectivity are standard. Base-level infotainment and technology features are on par with a car of this class.
Available driver aids include rear parking sensors with cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control and a pre-collision warning system. Audio can be enhanced with a 19-speaker Mark Levinson system. An optional rear DVD entertainment system also is available.
