It can be challenging for your vehicle to maintain a secure grip on roads that are slick with rain or covered in snow, but the 2016 Subaru Impreza is perfectly equipped for this task. All Impreza models come standard with all-wheel drive, and this provides stability when traveling in inclement weather. The Impreza’s assets also include spacious accommodations and comfortable ride quality.
The Subaru Impreza is offered as a sedan and a hatchback. This compact car comes in five trims: 2.0i, 2.0i Premium, 2.0 Sport Premium, 2.0i Limited and 2.0i Sport Limited.
For 2016, all Impreza models receive upgraded infotainment systems with Subaru Starlink Cloud applications. The 2.0i Limited trim adds Starlink safety and security services.
The Impreza’s sheet metal isn’t necessarily a standout, but it has a safe and familiar charm. A modestly sized grille overlooks an angular body-colored bumper in front, and the Impreza’s standard 15-inch wheels are visible from the side. The rear view is dominated by tall taillights and a spoiler.
Base Impreza models come with daytime running lights, black folding side mirrors and body-colored door handles. The Impreza’s feature content may be enhanced with optional 16- or 17-inch wheels, fog lights, side mirrors with integrated turn signals and a power sunroof.
The Impreza’s cabin has a somewhat plain look, but it’s nicely constructed and offers good materials quality. This Subaru rides on a relatively long 104.1-inch wheelbase, and this allows it to provide spacious accommodations. The rear seat is especially roomy for a compact car. The Impreza offers ample cargo capacity: 12 cubic feet for sedans and 22.5 cubic feet for hatchbacks. With the rear seats lowered, the hatchback’s cargo capacity increases to 52.4 cubic feet.
The lineup of standard interior amenities includes a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40-split folding rear seats, a manually adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, power windows and air conditioning. All hatchbacks come with useful cargo-area underfloor storage. You can upgrade your Impreza with automatic climate control, leather upholstery and heated front seats.
Subaru’s Impreza won’t get any awards for quickness, but there’s enough power on tap to meet all the challenges of modern driving. Standard all-wheel drive gives the car an extra dose of traction and stability. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on the 2.0i trim. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional on this trim and standard on all other models except the Sport Premium.
All models come with a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine that provides 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy stands at 25/33 mpg city/highway with the manual transmission and 28/36 mpg with the CVT.
The Impreza comes with a pleasing array of technology features. Base models are equipped with a 6.2-inch touch screen, HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, a single-disc CD player and a four-speaker sound system. You can beef up the tech content of your Impreza with available satellite radio, push-button start, a 7-inch touch screen, a navigation system and an upgraded six-speaker stereo. Optional active safety features such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and lane departure warning are offered as part of Subaru’s EyeSight system.
