All-wheel drive gives your car the traction it needs to maintain secure footing on roads covered in rain or snow. This feature is standard on the 2016 Subaru Legacy, and it gives this sedan an edge over some of its rivals. The Legacy also impresses with its strong assortment of safety features.
The 2016 Subaru Legacy is a midsize sedan that accommodates five. This all-wheel-drive sedan is offered with a choice of two engines, and all models utilize a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Four trims are available: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited.
For 2016, the Legacy adds lane-keep assist to its list of options. The car’s steering has been upgraded, and the Limited trim gets retuned suspension dampers for a more pleasant ride. A new auto on/off mode simultaneously activates the car’s windshield wipers and headlights.
The 2016 Subaru Legacy has sheet metal that’s modern and attractive, and it presents an appealing blend of rounded lines and chiseled surfaces. A six-cornered grille rules the front fascia, and standard four-beam halogen headlights illuminate the road ahead. In profile, the car presents body-colored door handles and 17-inch steel wheels, while LED taillights brighten the rear fascia.
Base models come with standard features such as an in-glass antenna and a body-colored spoiler. Exterior upgrades include alloy wheels, foldable side mirrors, dual steel exhaust tips, high-intensity-discharge headlights, a power sunroof, foglights and side mirrors with integrated turn signals.
The Legacy’s cabin has a look that’s clean and pragmatic. There’s a fair amount of soft-touch surfaces, and there’s ample room for passengers in both rows. In back, the trunk opens to provide 15 cubic feet of capacity.
Interior features include air conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, cloth upholstery, power door locks and windows and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. You can upgrade your Legacy with dual-zone automatic climate control, chrome interior door handles, woodgrain accents, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat and leather upholstery.
While the 2016 Subaru Legacy falls short of being the quickest model in its segment, it offers a pair of engines that unspool their power quietly, and this makes for a serene driving experience. A CVT is standard, and all models come with all-wheel drive for stable handling on slick roads.
Base models feature a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque, and this powerplant has an EPA rating of 26/35 mpg city/highway. The second engine choice is 3.6-liter six-cylinder powerplant good for 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. This engine has an EPA rating of 20/28 mpg.
The Legacy’s list of standard technology features includes Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, a 6.2-inch touch screen, a USB port, a rearview camera, an auxiliary jack and a four-speaker sound system with HD radio and CD player. Upgrades include a 7-inch touch screen, satellite radio, text messaging capability, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection, pre-collision braking and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
