With breathtaking sheet metal that commands attention, the 2017 Audi R8 isn’t for wallflowers. Quick, nimble and cooperative, it provides a driving experience every bit as impressive at its striking exterior design.
The Audi R8 seats two and comes in V10 and V10 Plus trims. For 2017, this coupe has been redesigned from roof to rubber.
The 2017 Audi R8’s sheet metal is crafted to make a bold statement regarding performance. Sleek headlights border an aggressive grille up front, while character lines swoop and curve along the car’s profile. The rear view features narrow tail lamps beneath a jaunty spoiler. Base models are equipped with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, power-folding heated side mirrors, LED turn signals and rear fog lights. Available exterior upgrades include 20-inch wheels, red brake calipers and carbon fiber exterior trim.
The R8’s cabin provides first-rate materials for a premium experience. Total cargo capacity is a mere 8 cubic feet, though, so you’ll need to travel light, and it’s worth noting that these accommodations are meager even by sports-car standards.
The base 2017 R8 comes with a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, automatic climate control, a flat-bottom steering wheel with shift paddles and heated leather seats. Available features include diamond-stitched leather and upholstery with contrast stitching.
When it comes to performance, the 2017 Audi R8 packs quite a punch, which is exactly as you’d expect from a German supercar. All R8 models come with a seven-speed automated manual transmission, all-wheel drive and a 5.2-liter V10 engine. In base models, this engine provides 540 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. Opt for the R8 V10 Plus and it generates 610 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Audi says the base R8 sprints from 0-to-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, while the V10 Plus makes the run in 3.2 seconds. V10 models reach a top track speed of 199 mph, while this figure climbs to 205 mph for the V10 Plus. The EPA rates the R8 at 14/22 mpg city/ highway.
The R8’s list of standard technology amenities is generous. Base models come with Bluetooth connectivity, a navigation system with voice control, keyless start, HD radio, satellite radio, a rearview camera and two USB ports. Interestingly, while base models come with a 13-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, the V10 Plus provides a more basic five-speaker audio system, with the Bang & Olufsen stereo offered as an option.
