If you’ve got automotive performance on your mind, you’ll be happy with a 2017 BMW M4 in your garage. The BMW M4 impresses with sleek styling, exceptional handling, and a finely crafted interior.
Sold in a single trim level, the 2017 BMW M4 is a compact two-door high-performance coupe or convertible that theoretically seats four, although two is the practical limit.
For 2017, the BMW M4 adds adaptive suspension dampers and an updated iDrive infotainment system to its list of standard equipment.
The 2017 BMW M4 has the powerful curves of a tiger shark. A bulging hood overlooks BMW’s trademark kidney-shaped grille in front, and adaptive xenon headlights cast their glow on the path ahead. The M4 barrels down straightaways on standard 18-inch wheels, and the view from the back reveals a sport exhaust system with quad tailpipes and chrome-plated exhaust tips.
All models come with heated power-folding side mirrors, with 19- or 20-inch wheels, headlight washers and adaptive LED headlights available as options. The coupe comes with a roof made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, and the convertible comes with a power-retractable hardtop.
The M4’s interior looks sporty and luxurious, thanks to its sporty M seats and steering wheel, and carbon fiber trim. The front row is spacious for passengers of all sizes, and the second row is adequate by two-door-car standards. Coupes offer 11 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and convertibles offer 7.9 cubic feet, so pack lightly.
The list of standard features includes heated power-adjustable front seats, a folding rear seatback, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and automatic climate control. The list of upgrades includes a heated steering wheel, and coupes are eligible for a power rear sunshade.
The 2017 BMW M4 delivers handling that defines high performance. Quick and flawlessly responsive, it never losing its poise even when pushed on tortuous roads. A twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine provides the muscle, generating 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. An available Competition package ups horsepower to 444.
Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission are standard. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is optional. The EPA rates the M4 at 17/26 mpg city/highway with the manual; 17/24 mpg with the dual-clutch automatic.
The 2017 BMW M4 comes with a solid lineup of technology equipment including navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, an 8.8.-inch touch screen, HD radio, satellite radio and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. You can upgrade your M4 with a head-up display, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, wireless device charger, surround-view camera system, automated parallel-parking assist, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, parking sensors, and forward collision mitigation with automatic braking.
