The 2017 Malibu boasts an attractive cabin. The dashboard has a symmetric, multi-piece design with a dynamic, wing-like theme, while the inner door panels have detailed sculpting and shapes. In the rear, all Malibu trims come with standard 60/40-split folding seats, and the car’s trunk capacity is rated at 15.8 cubic feet.
Premium cloth seats are standard, along with air conditioning and a multi-function steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping column. For upscale touches, the Malibu can be ordered with leather seating appointments, heated and ventilated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s chair, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, driver-seat memory settings, dual-zone climate control and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The Malibu stands out from its rivals with an all-turbo powertrain lineup. The standard 1.5-liter, four-cylinder unit produces 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and the 2.0-liter engine, standard in the Malibu Premier, can deliver 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the base Malibu has EPA ratings of 27/36 mpg city/highway, while the 2.0-liter engine is graded at 22/33 mpg.
Chevy’s Malibu features a long list of available technologies. Base models come equipped with keyless entry and ignition, OnStar telematics and a six-speaker stereo. The list of available upgrades includes wireless device charging, a rearview camera, rear cross-traffic alert, a Wi-Fi hot spot with 4G LTE internet connectivity, lane keeping assist, forward collision alert, satellite radio, two USB ports, a premium Bose nine-speaker sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, a 7- or 8-inch touch screen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone mirroring.
Chevy’s Teen Driver feature is also available, and this amenity allows parents to track the driving patterns of their teens.
