The 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD brings a touch of uplevel sophistication to a segment better known for robust capabilities, offering premium features such as climate-controlled leather seating and a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. With two powerful engines available, the Sierra 2500HD has the brute force to get the job done.
A heavy-duty pickup with seating for up to six, the 2017 Sierra 2500HD offers four trims: base, SLE, SLT and Denali. Each comes standard with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel-drive is optional across the lineup.
GMC adds new content for 2017, including a rugged All Terrain X HD package, an upgraded optional diesel engine and GM’s Teen Driver technologies.
The 2018 Sierra 2500HD can be ordered in a two-door regular-cab body style as well as four-door double- and crew-cab configurations. Regular-cab models are offered solely with an eight-foot cargo box, and the larger cab sizes are available with eight-foot and six-and-a-half-foot boxes.
Highlighting the truck’s traditional pickup-style design are squared-off wheel arches, a strongly sculpted hood, chrome bumpers and a chrome-framed vertical grille. Denali models have their own unique exterior details.
Standard content for the Sierra 2500HD includes 17-inch painted steel wheels, manually folding exterior mirrors, integrated rear-bumper steps and a lockable tailgate. Adding a nice premium cue to the truck’s design are standard projector-style HID headlamps accented by LED signature lighting. Options include heated power-folding exterior mirrors, LED cargo-box lighting, spray-on bedliner and upsized steel and aluminum-alloy wheels.
The Sierra 2500HD has a handsome center-stack interface with design cues that echo those seen in the truck’s grille. A 40/20/40-split front bench is the standard setup, and front bucket seats and a rear bench are available.
Base models come with power door locks, air conditioning and a manually tilting steering-wheel column. The upper trims offer leather and perforated-leather seat trim, heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s chair, power-adjustable pedals and a heated and leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel.
The 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD offers a choice of two V8 engines. Standard is a 6.0-liter unit that runs on gasoline and produces 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The truck meets customer demand for a diesel engine, too, with a 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel that makes 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Both engines enable conventional trailer ratings of 14,500 pounds, but the turbodiesel can tow 18,100 pounds with a fifth-wheel trailer.
A six-speed transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard, and four-wheel drive is optional.
As with the truck’s interior content, technology levels for the Sierra 2500HD are fairly spartan in the standard configuration, but ramp up quickly for the other trims. Base models come with a four-speaker AM/FM stereo, a 4.2-inch display screen and USB/auxiliary inputs. GMC’s Teen Driver feature is also standard, and this amenity is designed to foster safer driving habits in young drivers.
Available tech equipment includes a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, HD radio, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, wireless device charging, a seven-speaker Bose audio system and two rear-seat entertainment systems. The list of available driver-assistive features includes a rearview camera, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, a vibrating safety-alert driver’s seat and front and rear parking sensors.
"What's not to love about this vehicle with the Denali package and with the Duramax diesel to get you down the road. We tow a 38' travel trailer and this truck just keeps going with the cruise control set at 70 mph. With that said, I do not think that I will ever purchase another one account I will never wear this one out!!"
Love the way the controls and dash are set up.
The style I was looking for.
Again, this vehicle in the 2500HD backed up with the Duramax diesel just keeps going and going like the Everready Bunny
Crew cab is wonderful. No children, but the dog loves all that space to sleep.
Cost effective? I myself question if there is an actual savings, however, if you are towing an RV or other heavy equipment it is a must. Not teriffic mileage and diesel fuel is more expensive, but then if you cannot afford the operating costs you probably cannot afford the truck in the first place.
