Many car shoppers like their crossovers to pay big dividends when it comes to roominess and comfort. With ample space for passengers and cargo and ride quality that’s unfailingly smooth, the Buick Enclave delivers impressive rewards in these areas.
The 2018 Buick Enclave is a midsize crossover that seats up to seven passengers, and it’s sold in base, Essence, Premium and Avenir trims. Gears are shifted by a nine-speed automatic transmission, and both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available.
The Enclave has been redesigned for 2018. The current model offers more third-row space than its predecessor, and it also brings improved towing capacity and a broader selection of advanced safety technologies. The top-of-the-line Avenir trim is new for 2018, and it aims to heighten the Enclave’s luxury quotient.
The Enclave’s sheet metal looks purposeful and modern. In front, flared headlights flank an elegant grille, and the crossover’s blunt hood is enhanced with character lines that fan out toward the windshield. The Enclave’s beltline gradually rises as it approaches the rear of the vehicle, and its side panels feature sculpting that imparts a three-dimensional look. Eighteen-inch wheels connect this Buick with the pavement.
Base models come decked with daytime running lights, automatic LED headlights, a hands-free power liftgate, heated power-adjustable side mirrors with auto-dimming capability and integrated turn signals, chrome bodyside moldings, roof rails and a rear spoiler. The list of available features includes memory settings for the driver-side exterior mirror, a power sunroof and 20-inch wheels.
There’s lots of room available within the Enclave’s cabin, and the materials used are of premium quality. The cabin has an upscale look, with swooping lines and a center stack that curves out to greet the driver and front passenger. The Enclave provides 23.6 cubic feet of capacity behind the third row, and 58 cubic feet with the third row folded. Behind the first row, this Buick provides 97.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity.
The lineup of standard interior amenities includes tri-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, second-row captain’s chairs, a 60/40-split folding third-row bench seat, heated power-adjustable front seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The list of upgrades includes memory settings for the driver’s seat and steering column, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, a power-folding third-row seat and a steering wheel with wood accents.
The Enclave aims to deliver a ride that’s both quiet and smooth. Front-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission are standard, and those who regularly tangle with rain and snow can opt for available all-wheel drive. Power comes from a 3.6-liter V6 that doles out 302 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the Enclave is able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.
Fuel economy stands at an EPA-estimated 18/26 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive models see slightly lower estimates of 17/25 mpg.
You get access to a solid lineup of technology features with the 2018 Buick Enclave. Base models come equipped with Bluetooth phone and music streaming, a stereo with an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, six USB ports, keyless entry and ignition, OnStar telematics, a rearview camera and a Wi-Fi hot spot with 4G LTE connectivity. Buick’s Teen Driver feature is also standard, and it allows you to set various restrictions on secondary drivers.
