The 2018 Ford F-250 is a member of the Blue Oval’s “Super Duty” family of trucks. They’re primarily meant for commercial customers, but you might be surprised at how much premium content these vehicles can offer. For example, the F-250 Super Duty provides luxury cues ranging from real-wood cabin trim to massage-function seats. It can pull more than nine tons, too.
The F-250 is a heavy-duty pickup. In some cab configurations, there’s room for up to six people. The F-250’s trim levels start with the XL model. For increasingly higher levels of equipment, Ford provides XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited models. Each one comes standard with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional across the lineup. (If you need more capability, the 2018 Super Duty family also features F-350 and F-450 pickup trucks.)
The range-topping Limited trim is new this year.
The 2018 F-250 shows off a bold front end with distinctively shaped lights that seem to bracket the grille bars. Fender vents are standard, and the fenders themselves aggressively set off the truck’s many available wheel designs. Also available are two cargo-box lengths and three cab styles. Regular-cab models have two doors, SuperCab trucks add two rear-hinged doors and the F-250 Crew Cab has four traditionally hinged doors.
The entry model has standard content like automatic halogen headlights, manually adjustable mirrors and 17-inch painted steel wheels. As for high-end equipment, the long list covers style and function upgrades. Among the most notable features: plenty of LED lighting (including LED headlamps), a dual-panel moonroof, stowable cargo-bed loading ramps, an integrated tailgate step, heated power-telescoping side-view mirrors and aluminum-alloy wheels up to 20 inches in diameter.
In the cabin, the F-250’s dashboard is another example of the truck’s blend of style and substance. The driver’s side is capped off by a dramatically sculpted instrument-panel hood with available leather trim. On the passenger side, dual glove boxes are standard. In terms of seating layouts, a front bench is standard and bucket seats are optional. A 60/40-split rear seat is standard for two-row models. These have flip-up seat bottoms with more storage underneath.
The entry trim for the 2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty comes with just the basics. That means equipment such as vinyl upholstery, air conditioning, manual windows, manual locks and a manually adjustable steering column. Power locks and windows are available, as are numerous luxury touches. By the time you get to the most premium trim levels, features can include leather upholstery, genuine wood appliques, climate-controlled massage-function front seats, heated outboard rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals and a heated leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a power-adjustable column.
A 6.2-liter V8 is standard for the F-250. That engine produces 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. For the most towing capability, you can opt for the turbodiesel 6.7-liter “Power Stroke” V8, which serves up 450 horsepower, 935 pound-feet of torque and a conventional trailering capacity of 17,500 pounds. With a fifth-wheel, “gooseneck” trailer, the F-250 is rated to pull up to 18,500 pounds. The standard powertrain for all models also relies on a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is optional for all trim levels.
The EPA does not publish fuel-economy ratings for the F-250 and other heavy-duty pickups.
Ford supplies a rearview camera and an AM/FM stereo with four speakers as standard equipment.
For more advanced safety technology, the F-250 offers adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer reverse guidance, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning and up to seven cameras. Key infotainment upgrades for the truck include navigation, an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, an 8-inch instrument-panel productivity screen and a 10-speaker Sony audio system with satellite radio, HD Radio and Ford’s fleet-focused telematics system.

My Ford tuck
"I never owned a Ford truck before, always a Chevy. Granted this truck is a fancier model but it feels so much more solid. It is a little too tall so I am forced to spend a little more money to add step rails on each side."
