The 2018 GMC Sierra 3500HD is a full-size heavy-duty truck that seats up to six. It’s sold in base, SLE, SLT and Denali trims. Buyers can choose from three cab styles and two bed lengths. Both single- and dual-rear-wheel configurations are offered, and the truck can be equipped with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. A chassis-cab model known as the Sierra 3500HD CC is offered. This model has no cargo box, and it gives buyers the opportunity to equip the truck with a box that’s customized to meet their needs.
For the 2018 model year, the Sierra 3500HD adds a rearview camera on all models equipped with a cargo box. A 7-inch touch screen is now standard on base models.

Base models are equipped with chrome front and rear bumpers, an integrated step in the corner of the rear bumper for easy cargo-bed access, a capless fuel-filling system, daytime running lights, a driver-side spotter mirror for safe trailering, a locking tailgate, black exterior door handles, high-intensity-discharge projector-beam headlights, cargo-area lighting, manually adjustable side mirrors, recovery hooks and 18-inch wheels.
Available amenities include spray-on bedliner, a power sunroof, body-colored front and rear bumpers, chrome or body-colored exterior door handles, LED lighting for the cargo box, heated power-adjustable side mirrors, chrome or body-colored side moldings and an upgraded tailgate designed for easy lifting and lowering. Dual-rear-wheel models come with 17-inch wheels.
The Sierra 3500HD’s cabin is comfortable and user-friendly, and with top trim models, the interior has a premium look. Regular-cab models seat up to three passengers, and extended-cab and crew-cab models can accommodate up to six.
Standard equipment includes air conditioning, rubberized-vinyl floor mats, a tilt-adjustable steering column, vinyl upholstery and a 40/20/40-split bench seat for front-row passengers. Available features includes power-adjustable pedals, 10-way power-adjustable front bucket seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, color-keyed carpeting, heated and ventilated front seats, and cloth or leather upholstery.
Those who choose heavy-duty trucks expect mighty power, and the Sierra 3500HD delivers. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard, and four-wheel drive is offered.
Base models are motivated by a 6.0-liter gas-powered V8 good for 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged diesel engine is available, and this 6.6-liter V8 provides 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. The Sierra 3500HD can be equipped to accommodate a gooseneck or fifth-wheel hitch, and it’s capable of towing up to 23,200 pounds.
The EPA doesn’t provide fuel economy ratings for heavy-duty trucks.
This GMC truck offers a pleasing range of tech features. Base models come with Bluetooth phone and streaming music, a 7-inch touch screen, USB connectivity, an auxiliary audio input jack, Pandora internet radio, a six-speaker sound system, a rearview camera and Teen Driver features that allows you to set parameters for secondary drivers.
Optional equipment includes a wireless device charger, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, HD Radio, a six-speaker Bose stereo, satellite radio, a CD/MP3 player, an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning and front and rear parking sensors.
