The 2018 Kia Forte supplies value in a competitive segment. This small sedan or hatchback (known as the Forte5) offers a roomy interior, ample cargo capacity and excellent fuel economy.
The 2018 Forte is a front-wheel-drive compact car that seats five passengers. It is available in LX, S and EX trims. The Forte5 comes in LX, EX and SX trims. Most models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine; select Forte5 models offer a turbocharged engine.
Small changes accompany the 2018 Forte, including now-standard cruise control across the model line, a new wheel design and available safety features such as rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot detection with lane-change assist.
The 2018 Kia Forte goes beyond the economical look of some models to include a handsome front fascia, not unlike the larger Optima sedan. Deep pockets on the front corners give this model a sporting flair. A rising beltline and falling roofline suggest a model always in motion. Sedan models end with a notch-like trunk, while hatchbacks have a wraparound liftgate with a spoiler and oversized tail lamps.
Standard features include projector beam headlamps, power adjustable and heated side mirrors, and 15-inch steel wheels. Optional equipment includes 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, HID headlights with an automatic on/off feature, fog lights, LED taillights and a rear deck lid spoiler on the sedan.
With the 2018 Kia Forte, you’ll find a spacious cabin ideal for four, or five in a pinch. The materials used include molded plastics and others that are soft to the touch.
Most models come with cloth-covered seats, with leather-wrapped seats available. The sedan’s storage space measures a generous 14.9 cubic feet, equaling what many midsize sedans offer. As for the hatchback, it delivers 23.2 cubic feet of cargo capacity or 56.4 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. A cargo cover is included.
The base model comes with a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, power windows and door locks, air conditioning, and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. Available equipment includes push-button start, power front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, and dual-zone climate control.
Most models come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, generating 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Forte EX models use the same engine but benefit from gasoline direct injection to deliver 164 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. The Forte5 is the only model with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, achieving 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.
All models except for the LX sedan and SX come with a standard six-speed automatic transmission. The SX offers a standard six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel economy ranges from 25/33 mpg city/highway to 29/37 mpg for the automatic. The Forte5 SX delivers 23/29 mpg with the manual transmission and 25/30 mpg with the automatic.
Most models supply light-to-the-touch steering, decent handling and a fair ride. The Forte5 SX does the best job of carving up corners with its weighty steering and nimble handling.
A four-speaker audio system with a CD player and satellite radio is standard in the sedan; hatchbacks come with a six-speaker package. You’ll also find Bluetooth connectivity, and USB and audio input.
Kia’s UVO telematics system is available on the 2018 Forte, delivering a 7-inch color touch-screen display. It is easy to understand with a short learning curve. Also available are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone compatibility, navigation, a six-speaker audio system, HD Radio and a rearview camera.
Available driver-assist safety technologies include blind-spot detection, lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

Good little car
"I've owned this car for about 2 years now. Its a good small car for those who need one. It does seem to have a power drain somewhere though. The stereo has a noticeable volume difference when the AC or Heater are on or when I am speeding down a highway. Its also a very invisible car. Its so common looking that a lot of other drivers never seem to see it. "
I like the easy to see controls. And I like having all of the empty glove space. However, the car is just a little bit cramped as far as room goes.
Beautiful exterior, but as I said, its pretty common as it looks similar to a modern Honda and other cars of its type. This does bring it some collision risk.
It tends to be lacking in power. The car will not gun very well, nor will it go fast in 60 seconds. Going uphill from a complete stop can cause a small stall in the engine as it works to get the power needed to move forward.
I can only give this two stars as the space in the vehicle is extremely limited. Its ok if you have small kids. But if you have large kids, prepare for your back to be kicked by them.
I get good gas mileage with it. I have not had any mechanical problems with it yet. So far, its about average on preventive care and gas milage.
"My 2018 Kia Forte has been great. The seats are comfortable and it is always a smooth ride. My gas mileage is great too!! We average about 46mpg highway, 32 city. It is a great family car. I currently have 93,336 miles and going."
The material is very easy to clean.
The clear coat has prevented many scratches.
I really like the fast acceleration for getting on the highway. The hill assist is also a great feature.
The four doors make it very easy to get the kids in and out of the vehicle.
I believe I got a great deal with this vehicle. I got great performance, comfort and style for under $20000.
