If you’re looking for a large SUV that’s comfortable on pavement and capable off-road, check out the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser. The Land Cruiser also offers enough towing capacity to haul boats and trailers.
Toyota’s Land Cruiser is a full-size SUV that seats eight passengers, and it’s sold in a single, well-equipped trim. All models come with four-wheel drive.
For 2018, the Land Cruiser adds standard swing-away exterior mirrors that automatically activate when the SUV is turned on and off.
The Land Cruiser’s sheet metal has a look that’s bold and assured, and it’s easy to imagine this vehicle conquering rocky mountain trails. A sculpted hood overlooks a wide, chrome-accented front grille, and the SUV’s boxy silhouette lends a retro feel. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels keep this Toyota in touch with the pavement.
Standard exterior features include automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, heated power-folding side mirrors with auto-dimming capability, a power sunroof, a power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear privacy glass and running boards. A standard roof rack provides added utility.
Plush comfort prevails within the Land Cruiser’s cabin. The first two rows offer ample space, but legroom is cramped in the third row. This big Toyota offers 16.1 cubic feet of capacity behind the third row and 43 cubic feet with the third row folded. With both the second and third rows folded, you’ll enjoy 81.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
All models come with four-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a heated 40/20/40-split folding second-row seat that slides and reclines, a 50/50-split folding third-row seat, a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, power windows and door locks, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Leather upholstery also is standard.
The Land Cruiser delivers smooth driving dynamics in most circumstances, and there’s lots of power under the hood. A standard four-wheel-drive setup with a high/low transfer case provides the traction needed for off-road adventures. Gears are shifted by an eight-speed automatic transmission.
This Toyota gets its motivation from a 5.7-liter V8 good for 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The engine facilitates towing capacity of 8,100 pounds.
Fuel-economy ratings for the 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser stand at 13/18 mpg city/highway.
There’s an appealing lineup of technology in the Land Cruiser. All models come with wireless device charging, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, Siri Eyes Free, keyless entry and ignition, navigation, a 9-inch touch screen, a 14-speaker sound system, satellite radio, a USB port, and HD radio. The lineup of standard driver-assistive technology includes adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, lane departure alert, a surround-view camera and forward collision mitigation.
A rear-seat DVD entertainment system with two 11.6-inch display screens and a pair of wireless headphones is optional.
