The 2019 Acura NSX is a hybrid supercar that delivers pure performance every time drivers step on the accelerator. An exotically sculpted and vented exterior design? Acura provides one of those, too. The NSX, however, isn’t high strung and temperamental when on the road. The only people likely to be intimidated by the NSX’s driving experience are other drivers.

A compact sports car, the 2019 Acura NSX seats two people. The single trim for 2019 relies on a twin-turbo V6, three electric motors, a lithium-ion battery, a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Similar sports cars include the Audi R8 and McLaren 570S.

Previously optional equipment, such as a navigation system and semi-aniline leather seats, become standard for 2019. Acura engineers also tweaked the chassis and updated key software systems for improved dynamics.

Looking ready to skitter forward like an angry insect, the 2019 Acura NSX complements its aggressive shape with functional details. For example, the side mirrors are attached to the body by thin, blade-like structures. They not only look cool, but they help with aerodynamics. The rear roof pillars flow away from the doors to make room for the side intakes. Those route air to the engine, which is located behind the passenger compartment.

Standard features include automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, mirror-mounted LED turn signals, heated mirrors with reverse tilt-down functionality, flush door handles, 19-inch aluminum-alloy front wheels and 20-inch aluminum-alloy rear wheels. A carbon-fiber roof, carbon-fiber rear spoiler and carbon-fiber body kit are optional.

The 2019 NSX provides an interesting mix of soft touchpoints and structural trim elements for the cockpit. They come together in flowing surfaces on the dashboard and create a terraced look in front of the passenger. For drivers, the focus is on a visored instrument panel. A rear cargo space behind the NSX’s engine compartment supplies 4.4 cubic feet of storage.

Heated leather-and-Alcantara sport seats with eight-way power adjustability are standard. Also standard are a leather-trimmed instrument panel, leather-trimmed door panels, dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping column. The NSX is available with carbon-fiber cabin trim and, as a no-cost option, lightweight manually adjustable sport seats.

A twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine is at the heart of the 2019 Acura NSX’s hybrid powertrain and sends power to the rear wheels. Also on board is a lithium-ion battery and three electric motors. This setup lets drivers enjoy electrically enabled all-wheel drive plus 573 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque. To manage that output, a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard.

The NSX has EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 21/22 mpg city/highway.

Acura’s high-tech Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, torque vectoring and magnetically controlled suspension dampers ensure uncanny handling to go with a top speed of 191 mph.

The 2019 NSX comes with a digital instrument panel, a navigation system and an infotainment system that bundles a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, Bluetooth, HD Radio and a 580-watt ELS Studio sound system with nine speakers. Satellite radio is optional.

Engineered more for driving excitement than for driver assistance, the NSX does have a standard multi-angle rearview camera along with both cornering sensors and rear parking sensors.
