The 2019 Cadillac Escalade is so luxurious and capable that it’s hard to know where to start. On the one hand, the Escalade offers an opulent cabin with high-end materials and innovative technologies. Yet it also comes with body-on-frame construction and a powerful engine. As a result, the Escalade can pull more than 8,000 pounds and sprint from 0 to 60 mph in fewer than 6 seconds.
The Escalade, which is a full-size luxury SUV, provides standard seating for seven people. An eight-person cabin is optional. For 2019, the “Escalade” entry model is joined in the lineup by Luxury, Premium Luxury and Platinum trim levels. All models are equipped with a V8 engine that’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is available for all trims. The 2019 Cadillac Escalade ESV rides on a longer wheelbase to supply maximum cargo space.
The 2019 Escalade family is unchanged from the previous model year.
A large Cadillac grille is on display at the front of the Escalade and set off by distinctive front lighting. Each set of lights looks like a long single unit that flows behind a body-color trim piece. The body of the Escalade is defined by strong lines and smooth surfaces, while the rear is complemented by tall thin taillights that stretch up to the roofline.
The Escalade checks in with high levels of standard content. That includes LED headlights, LED taillights, signature daytime running lights, 20-inch chrome-plated aluminum-alloy wheels and power-folding heated exterior mirrors with curb-view assistance, integrated turn signals and puddle lamps. For practical benefits, assist steps and a programmable hands-free tailgate are standard. The upper trims can offer LED front cornering lamps, a power moonroof, 22-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and power-retractable assist steps with LED lighting. The Escalade Platinum is further distinguished by its own grille design.
The 2019 Escalade has an elegant interior with a clean, sophisticated dashboard design. The highlight is a center-stack that seems to flow down the dash. This is accented by standard wood trim and, in the range-topping models, a leather-wrapped instrument panel. In the second and third rows, fold-and-tumble captain’s chairs and a power-folding 60/40-split bench are standard. A 60/40-split bench is available for the second row. The Escalade also has a cargo capacity of 94.2 cubic feet. For bigger jobs, the long-wheelbase ESV offers more than 120 cubic feet of storage room.
The Escalade’s passenger accommodations are impressive as well. Along with standard leather upholstery, the 12-way power-adjustable front seats are heated and ventilated and the second row is heated. Other notable standard equipment includes tri-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable pedals and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a power-adjustable column. The Platinum trim again has exclusive content. It provides cues like 18-way power-adjustable front seats with a massage function.
At the core of the Escalade’s performance package is a standard 6.2-liter V8. This engine produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, which is enough for a maximum towing capacity of 8,300 pounds. That’s almost 600 pounds more than you can tow with the most powerful 2019 Land Rover Range Rover. With the Escalade, you also benefit from a standard 10-speed automatic transmission, Brembo brakes, a Magnetic Ride Control suspension and rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive, complete with a two-speed transfer case, is optional.
The Escalade’s standard EPA ratings are 14/23 mpg city/highway. That’s a bit low for city driving, even in the full-size SUV segment.
The Escalade has standard driver-assistance technologies such as a rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors. To complement those safety features, Cadillac offers a variety of standard connectivity resources. You get a mobile Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also standard are a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, an 8-inch touch screen, a navigation system and a 16-speaker Bose audio system.
Adaptive cruise control, automatic braking (forward and reverse), blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, a head-up display, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, rear cross-traffic alert and a digital rearview mirror are all available for the Escalade. A rear-seat Blu-ray entertainment system is also offered, and it provides separate 9-inch drop-down screens for the second and third rows.
