If you regularly pull boats or campers, you’ll love the robust towing capacity provided by the 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tahoe also provides generous passenger capacity and a cabin that remains quiet even at highway speeds.
The 2019 Chevy Tahoe is a full-size SUV that can be configured to seat eight or nine passengers. Three trim levels are offered: LS, LT and Premier. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.
The Tahoe sees no major changes for the 2019 model year.
The exterior design of the 2019 Tahoe is angular and truck-like. The front fascia features an imposing grille flanked by stacked headlights. In profile, the Tahoe is shaped like a brick, with blocky design cues that include squared-off wheel wells. In back, slim taillights are perched above a split-level bumper.
Base models are equipped with projector-beam headlights, LED daytime running lights, heated power-folding side mirrors, LED taillights, black side steps, rain-sensing windshield wipers and 18-inch wheels. The list of options includes power-retractable side steps, a power sunroof, HID headlights, fog lights, power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a hands-free power liftgate, body-colored bodyside molding and 20-inch wheels.
Chevy’s Tahoe provides an agreeable cabin that keeps road and wind noise at bay. There are a fair amount of soft-touch surfaces up front, and the first two rows provide spacious accommodations. However, the third row presents a cramped environment for adults. With the standard 60/40-split folding second- and third-row bench seats, the Tahoe seats eight. An optional front-row bench seat boosts passenger capacity to nine.
With all seats in place, the Tahoe delivers 15.3 cubic feet of cargo space, and this expands to 51.7 cubic feet with the second row folded. The Tahoe provides 94.7 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the first row.
The Tahoe’s list of standard interior amenities includes tri-zone automatic climate control, underfloor storage in the rear cargo area, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, cloth upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a tilt-only steering column. The list of options includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, power-adjustable pedals, a tilt-and-telescoping steering column, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power-folding third-row seat and heated second-row seats.
The Tahoe’s biggest strength is its muscular towing capability, and it’s capable of pulling up to 8,600 pounds. Buyers can choose between six-speed and 10-speed automatic transmissions. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive is available.
Two engines are available, and they’re both V8s. The first is a 5.3-liter power plant good for 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. There’s also an available 6.2-liter engine, and it provides 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
EPA-rated fuel economy peaks at 15/22 mpg city/highway.
Chevy’s Tahoe is equipped with a modern range of tech features. Base models come with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth phone and music streaming, satellite radio, keyless entry, a Wi-Fi hotspot and a six-speaker sound system.
The list of options includes adaptive cruise control, Bose nine- or 10-speaker stereos, navigation, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, forward collision mitigation, a lane-keeping assist system, a lane-departure warning system, keyless ignition, rear cross-traffic alert and a blind-spot warning system.
