The 2019 Honda Civic continues to be a top choice among small cars, and with good reason. It offers attractive styling, a composed driving experience and a standard suite of driver assistance features. Honda’s reputation for excellent reliability and strong resale values also are high points for the Civic.
The 2019 Honda Civic is available in sedan, coupe and hatchback body styles. The sedan is available in LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Touring and Si trims, while the Civic coupe comes in LX, Sport, EX, Touring and Si models. Honda offers the Civic hatchback in LX, Sport, EX, EX-L Navi, Sport Touring and high-performance Type R trims. The base Civic sedan comes with a four-cylinder engine, a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional.
The Civic sees a few changes for 2019. All Civic models except the Type R now come standard with the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistance features. Additionally, a newly available Display Audio system debuts, and it adds a volume knob so that the infotainment system is easier to use. On the outside, the Civic benefits from revised front and rear fascias.
Sharp, sculpted lines make the Civic sedan one of the most attractive small cars on the road. At the front, you’ll notice a V-shaped fascia that’s complemented by sleek headlamp assemblies. The Civic sedan’s sloping roofline is also an elegant touch, while the hatchback has a more bulbous and athletic design.
Standard features include automatic headlights, body-colored door handles, 16-inch wheels and two-speed intermittent windshield wipers. Available equipment includes 18-inch wheels, heated mirrors, fog lights, a decklid spoiler, a moonroof and LED headlights.
The 2019 Civic provides a premium cabin with upscale materials and an attractive design. The sedan is also exceptionally roomy, with an impressive amount of rear-seat legroom for the class.
With 15.1 cubic feet of cargo space, the Civic sedan offers great cargo space for the class. The hatchback provides 25.7 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats in place and 46.2 cubic feet overall. The Civic coupe offers the least cargo room in the lineup, with a maximum of 12.1 cubic feet of space.
The base LX sedan comes standard with single-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, power windows and door locks and cloth upholstery. Leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front and rear seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are available.
Honda’s Civic offers competitive fuel economy estimates, as well as an agreeable ride and handling that’s sporty for the class. The base Civic sedan and coupe come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a CVT is available.
A turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder is standard on EX, EX-L and Touring sedans (and EX and Touring coupes). It’s rated to make 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and it’s paired with a CVT.
Hatchback models come standard with the 1.5-liter turbo and a standard CVT, though the Sport hatchback is offered with a manual transmission. Sport and Sport Touring hatchbacks are also slightly more powerful, with an engine output of 180 horsepower.
Honda also offers the Civic Si, which is available in coupe and sedan body styles. This model features a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that cranks out 205 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the high-performance Civic Type R hatchback gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that churns out 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A manual transmission is standard for the Si and Type R models.
The base Civic sedan gets an EPA-estimated 25/36 mpg city/highway. Models with the CVT and the 1.5-liter turbo offer the best fuel economy in the lineup, returning up to 32/42 mpg.
The base Civic sedan comes with an excellent list of active safety features. Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, a multi-angle rearview camera, lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control are all included on the base LX sedan. Meanwhile, standard cabin technology includes a 5-inch screen, a four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth and a USB port.
Higher trims, such as the Civic Touring, bring in features like an upgraded audio system, navigation, satellite and HD radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, hands-free text messaging, an infotainment system with a 7-inch display, push-button start and blind spot monitoring.
