The all-new Kia Forte has grown into a car that delivers an impressive range of equipment for its segment. It’s still an affordable choice, but now it offers luxury-style features for all-weather comfort and advanced driver-assistance. The Forte also provides fuel economy ratings that are near the head of its class.
The 2019 Kia Forte is a compact sedan that offers room for five people. The lineup consists of FE, LXS, S and EX trims. All models have standard four-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional.
To celebrate the Forte’s new design, a limited-run Launch Edition is available with a Fire Orange exterior finish, LED headlights, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and a Harman Kardon audio system.
The 2019 Forte has a more sophisticated and aggressive look that was inspired by the Kia Stinger sport sedan. The new design is highlighted by a low-profile grille and dramatic carving for the lower-intake area. Another interesting detail, at both ends of the car, is the location for the turn signals. These are separate from the main lights in both cases and mounted in carved-out spaces below the headlights. The turn signals are beneath the bumper in the back.
Standard equipment includes automatic projector-style headlamps, daytime running lights, power-adjustable mirrors and 15-inch steel wheels with covers. You can get premium lighting for the car with optional LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights. A power sunroof, a hands-free trunk, a rear spoiler and 16- and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are also available.
The Forte’s dashboard provides a distinctive multilevel design that’s bracketed by circle-shaped outboard climate vents. The center vents have a wing-shaped appearance and are positioned right below the free-standing infotainment screen. A 60/40-split folding seat is standard above the entry model. The Forte also has 15.3 cubic feet of storage capacity in its trunk.
Dual-zone automatic climate control is an upscale standard feature for the 2019 Forte. Other standard equipment includes cloth upholstery, manually adjustable seats, power accessories, cruise control and a multifunction steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping column. Leatherette upholstery, climate-controlled front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s chair, soft-touch dashboard surfaces and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are available.
The Forte is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. This unit is paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission. The Forte also offers a new CVT that was developed in-house by Kia engineers. It’s optional for the entry model and standard in the other trim levels. Front-wheel drive is standard across the board.
The fuel efficiency grades for the Forte range from 27/37 mpg city/highway with the manual gearbox to 31/41 mpg city/highway with the CVT.
For driver-assistance technology, you can count on standard features such as automatic forward emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance and a rearview camera. Standard infotainment features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a USB port, an auxiliary input jack and four audio speakers.
You can also benefit from available driver-assistance equipment like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, pedestrian detection and rear parking sensors. A navigation system and wireless charging are available for the Forte, as are two audio upgrades: a mid-level six-speaker system and an eight-speaker setup from Harman Kardon.
