Don’t be fooled by the sophisticated look of the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. Beneath that clean sculpted sheet metal is a highly capable SUV that wouldn’t mind getting a little dirty on the trail. Whatever the driving conditions on the outside, the Evoque offers features to keep you plenty comfortable on the inside. It’s also available with an unexpected drop-top body style.
The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is a compact luxury SUV that seats five. Convertible models seat four. Together, there are eight trim levels: SE, SE Premium, SE Dynamic, Landmark Edition, HSE, HSE Dynamic, Autobiography or Autobiography Dynamic. The standard powertrain relies on a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
A number of new exterior colors and refreshed graphics for the Evoque’s uplevel infotainment system are new this year.
A wide stance and short roof give the Evoque a sporty, hunkered-down appearance. It also shows its muscle with powerful fenders. The ones at the front bulge high enough to even curve the line connecting the Evoque’s headlight and fender vents. Land Rover sets off the athletic look with large intake openings and a lower brush guard up front.
A power-retractable soft top is standard for the SE Dynamic trim and optional with the HSE Dynamic. In both cases, the Evoque’s body is retailored for a two-door body style.
The entry model is the SE trim, which is equipped with automatic halogen headlights, mirror-mounted approach lights, heated power-folding mirrors and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. The Evoque is available with xenon or adaptive LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, a panoramic glass roof, a contrast color roof, a hands-free tailgate and 19- and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Long lines and smooth surfaces create an upscale environment in the Evoque’s cabin. As an example, the upper level of the dash is like an extension of the instrument panel that crosses the entire width of the interior. The floor console adds to the effect by flowing between the front seats and up into the dashboard.
The Evoque hard-top has standard 60/40-split folding rear seats with 20.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity in the back. Folding the seats will enable 51 cubic feet of rear storage. The Evoque convertible only supplies 8.9 cubic feet of cargo space but that remains unchanged regardless of whether the top’s up or down.
Standard features include leather upholstery, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a tilt-and-telescoping column. The Evoque offers options such as climate-controlled 14-way power-adjustable front seats with a built-in massage function. You can also get optional equipment like perforated-leather upholstery, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and genuine wood or aluminum accents.
The Range Rover Evoque carries a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. It makes 237 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque in its standard configuration. Land Rover also provides a version of that engine that’s boosted to 286 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Both setups are matched with standard all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Another shared benefit for both power plants is a tow rating of up to 3,968 pounds (when the Evoque is properly equipped).
The Evoque has fuel economy ratings of 22/29 mpg city/highway with its standard engine.
To let you make the most of the Evoque’s off-road capability, a multimode Terrain Response drive system is standard with All-Terrain Progress Control. That technology works as a very low-speed cruise control in extreme low-traction situations.
The Evoque’s standard InControl Touch infotainment system comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, a navigation system, Bluetooth, access to mobile apps and an eight-speaker audio system. The available InControl Touch Pro setup upgrades with a 10-inch touchscreen, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, a CD/DVD player and a 10-speaker Meridian audio system. Additional options include a head-up display, satellite radio, HD Radio and 12- and 16-speaker Meridian sound systems.
A rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors are standard for driver assistance. Also beneficial is optional technology such as adaptive cruise control, automatic forward emergency braking, automatic park assistance, blind-spot monitoring, a driver attention monitor lane departure alert, lane-keeping assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera system and traffic sign recognition.
