With the 2019 Lexus NX, passengers are treated to a spacious, attractive cabin. The NX also impresses with its sleek exterior design and strong fuel economy.
The 2019 Lexus NX is a compact luxury crossover SUV that seats five passengers, and it’s available with gas-only and hybrid powertrains. It’s often cross-shopped against small premium crossovers like the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. For 2019, the NX carries over with no major changes.
The NX bears design cues that will be familiar to anyone who’s ever seen a modern Lexus vehicle. A curvy, spindle-shaped grille occupies most of the front fascia, and it’s bordered by scowling headlights. This compact SUV has a sculpted, powerful silhouette, with muscular haunches and an ascending beltline. The rear hatch is bisected by horizontal taillights.
Base models are equipped with roof rails, power-folding side mirrors, LED headlights and 17-inch wheels. The list of options includes 18- or 19-inch wheels, upgraded triple-beam LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers. a hands-free power liftgate, a power sunroof and a windshield wiper de-icer.
A clean, modern aesthetic prevails within the NX’s cabin. Build quality is impressive, and the materials used are of good quality. The front row is roomy and comfortable. In back, the NX provides a spacious rear seat that offers good legroom even for taller passengers.
With all seats in place, the NX offers up to 17.7 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Cargo space swells to 54.6 cubic feet with the rear seats lowered.
Standard interior amenities include simulated leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, power-adjustable front seats and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. The list of options includes heated front seats, power-folding and reclining rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column and aluminum pedals.
The NX delivers the pleasant, easy-going handling shoppers expect from luxury SUVs. Overall, this Lexus is an agreeable companion during daily travels.
With 300 and 300 F Sport models, power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Gears are shifted by six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
The 300h is motivated by a hybrid powertrain that produces a net output of 194 horsepower. It’s governed by a continuously variable transmission, and all models are all-wheel drive.
With gas-only models, EPA-rated fuel economy for the 2019 NX peaks at 22/28 mpg city/highway. Hybrids achieve mileage of 33/30 mpg. The NX can tow up to 2,000 pounds.
