The 2020 Cadillac CT6 is a full-size luxury sedan that seats five people. It’s meant for those who want an upscale car but prefer a sedan over an SUV — as long as it’s appropriately plush, powerful and has a long list of high-end features.
What Makes the Cadillac CT6 Unique?
It’s handsomely styled inside and out and offers Cadillac’s Super Cruise system, which enables semi-autonomous driving in select conditions. It’s also offered in a high-performance CT6-V model.
Even as many consumers abandon passenger cars for crossover SUVs, the market for traditional luxury sedans remains competitive. These cars boast solid performance and increasingly fanciful features — like heated armrests and onboard fragrance atomizers — to distinguish themselves from ordinary sedans. The Cadillac CT6 goes head-to-head with some of the most appealing autos on the road:
Audi A8: Quietly elegant, with an emphasis on high-tech features.
BMW 7 Series: A bit sportier than the norm and has a wide range of models, including a plug-in hybrid.
Lexus LS: Distinctively cast with an outrageous front-end treatment, it holds its own in terms of luxury and capability. It’s also offered as a hybrid.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Still the leader of the pack in terms of over-the-top amenities, pleasing performance, and elegant interior and exterior styling — especially the AMG version.

2020 Cadillac CT6 vs. Other CT6s
The Cadillac CT6 has continued with only incremental changes since it debuted for the 2016 model year. If you’re looking to save money, shop for a used CT6. It was previously offered with a wider range of engines, including a fuel-saving turbocharged 4-cylinder. The aforementioned Super Cruise autonomous driving system was introduced for 2017. The high-performance CT6-V was added to the lineup for 2019, and a plug-in hybrid model was offered for 2017 and 2018.
Original starting prices, including destination fee:
Premium Luxury: $75,490
We recommend the mid-range Premium Luxury trim for its myriad luxury features, including Super Cruise and Cadillac’s adaptive Magnetic Ride Control, which deftly balances ride comfort and crisp handling abilities. The Platinum and CT6-V are the powerhouses in the lineup, featuring twin-turbo V8 engines, but they’re stratospherically priced.
335-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive
500-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.2-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic and all-wheel drive
550-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.2-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive
Compared to the class? The base engine could pack more of a punch, but that’s far from the case with either rendition of the twin-turbo V8.
3.6-liter: 21 EPA-estimated combined mpg*
4.2-liter: 17 mpg
*The EPA uses a mixture of highway and city driving for its combined estimate.
Compared to the class? It’s about average in a class not particularly known for fuel efficiency. The BMW 7 Series plug-in hybrid gets the electric equivalent of 56 mpg, but only for the first 16 miles or so of driving with a fully charged battery; after that it drops to a combined rating of 22 mpg.
