If you own a small business that requires you to transport goods from one place to the next, a cargo van such as the Nissan NV200 can be a godsend. These vans offer the utility you need to tackle your daily responsibilities. And, unlike larger vans, they’re compact enough to easily navigate congested urban roadways.
The NV200 impresses with its strong fuel economy. And with its easy-to-load cargo area, it’s a useful companion when you need to haul items of all sizes.
Nissan brought this small van to the marketplace back in 2013. Its car-based platform allows it to provide comfortable handling. The NV200 provides seating for two passengers, and power is sent to the front wheels.
From a design perspective, the NV200 has the boxy look you’d expect from a cargo van. Its front fascia is home to upswept headlights and a grille with thick metallic accents. The van’s rear cargo doors have a 40/60 split. This helps reduce the extent to which the doors intrude on the street when they’re open for loading and unloading.
Within its cabin, the NV200 places the emphasis on function. Standard mounting points allow you to easily install racks and shelves in the back. Optional cargo hooks are on hand if you need a solution for securing tools and gear. The cargo area’s low-loading floor makes getting items into and out of the van a breeze.
Large cargo vans can feel cumbersome in city driving. With its small footprint, the NV200 offers a measure of agility that bigger vans aren’t able to provide. Power from the engine is adequate, but expect the van to feel somewhat taxed if you’re carrying a heavy load.
Base models cruise on 15-inch wheels and come with sliding rear side doors. Within the cabin, power front windows are standard, and there’s also a height-adjustable driver’s seat. The front passenger seat folds flat to accommodate outsize cargo. The list of standard equipment also includes a two-speaker stereo and a CD player.
Quite a few attractive options are available, such as keyless entry and Bluetooth connectivity. A navigation system also is available, along with satellite radio and hands-free text messaging.
Nissan has given the NV200 a couple of useful upgrades over the years. In 2015, its transmission was revised to improve fuel economy. Rear parking sensors became available, as well as a glass package for the van’s sliding doors. In 2018, a rearview camera was added as standard equipment.
The NV200 competes with cargo vans such as the Ram ProMaster City, Ford Transit Connect and Mercedes-Benz Metris. It stands apart from the pack thanks to its impressive fuel economy and relatively agile handling.
